No more Plato in Texas A&M courses?

News about the subject:

Opinion from a faculty member who was told to remove Plato from a philosophy course:

I once heard a leading structural engineer, someone who had made major strides in earthquake-proofing buildings, in a private discussion refer to a particular group of people in a way that someone else thought was objectionable.

Perhaps we should stop earthquake-proofing our buildings. A few buildings falling down would be a small price to pay for calling out some objectionable language from the distant past.

There are lots and lots of things in history that we do not like. That does not mean that we should try to erase history.

A former history major very recently told me: “Those to do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Historians are doomed to watch while this happens”.

We will no longer be teaching kids to think…it’s getting moreso and moreso. Next we’ll be banning women from all majors except those like culinary arts.

It’s quite scary how we move backward and backward.
