No More Worries!

So. If you read my “Orientation Update!” thread, you probably remember that I had some trouble with my schedule. Mainly, that I could not get the MATH 45 class that I needed. It’s a remedial course due to my ELM score, and if I don’t take and pass it within a year of my acceptance I will not be allowed to return to Sonoma. So of course it really freaked me out.

The staff was very nice and told me which form to fill out, but they never told me the likelihood of actually getting the class. So I waited and hoped. Checked my school account every day to see if it got added onto my schedule.

This morning, I wake up and turn on my cell phone and it says “New Voicemail”. So I dial the number, and it’s a lady from Admissions and Records asking me to call her back to talk about my Fall 2008 schedule.

Crap. I probably didn’t get the class.

So I go check my e-mail, and I have an e-mail from the same lady that says “I’ve made some changes to your schedule due to you being unable to get the remedial math class you require.”

CRAP. She dropped me from other classes? (My schedule was PERFECT before, just sans math class.)

Call her back. “Oh great! I added your math 45 class, so go ahead and look at it and if you have problems feel free to change it during 2nd reg.” (Short for second registration, open enrollment, etc.)

I log onto my account. I got EXACTLY the schedule I wanted!

I’m so impressed with the helpfulness of Sonoma’s staff and of the way they handle problems…they’ve already been SO good and helpful to me! I’m not nervous about going there AT ALL anymore!

Parents-thank you so much for all your support and all the “It’ll work out!” speeches you’ve given me. Turned out you guys (and my own parents, as well XD) were right after all! Weird how that happens…XD just kidding!

Congratulations, HisGrace. I’m so happy for you! I know you’re tremendously relieved:)

That’s great news, Grace!

BTW, what is “XD” … I keep seeing it & I confess that I am clueless.

It’s supposed to be a “eyes closed laughing” smiley. ^_^

It’s one of my favorite smilies.

It totally made my day.

Until I had to go pay for my books. -.- (<–in contrast, a “peeved” smiley)

Try to get used books whenever possible. Just make sure the ISBN #‘s match exactly & there are no markings in the book (other peoples’ highlighting just doesn’t cut it). I use campusi(.com) for book searches. I always buy my kids their most-used textbooks so they don’t have to tote them home & back all the time … 8 classes & nightly homework makes for a very heavy backpack! D gets her college books either online or through the used book exchange that her college arranges.

My college doesn’t show you the ISBN when you look at what books you need online. :frowning: I bought them used from my school’s bookstore, but next semester I’ll do some more digging to try and figure things out.

^many people go to the bookstore and copy down the ISBN. Unfortunetly, I don’t live close enough to campus to do that. Often times, bookstores provide you with the title, author, edition, and publisher. You can sometimes find a book based on that.

^Yeah, I’m an 8-hour drive away. So I don’t have too much of a choice.

^This semester I just found it easier to buy from the bookstore (money isn’t a huge deal) because it’s so much less stress. So far, I’ve had good luck selling them back, but I don’t know how it will be with my new school.

HGFM, I’ve found that the Library of Congress catalog at http://catalog.loc.gov is very helpful for figuring out ISBNs based on the information the bookstores provide.
