Interesting article in the Sunday New York Times today about students who for whatever reason (reach heavy list, financial reversals, personal or family issues) end up without a place to go in the spring. I know that that www.nacacnet.org does an annual list of colleges with places remaining (list is posted on May 7 this year) -definitely bears frequent repeating for seniors and parents.

Most interesting to me is that if qualifications put the student ahead of those already on the waitlist, the student may very well be taken ahead of those people. The article stresses that if one goes this route it is important for the student to be the one making all the contact with the school, and a letter of explanation will probably be required.
