no prerequisites offered at my cc

I’m trying to transfer to UCLA’s asian american studies major
but my cc doesn’t have both of these two prereq classes:
1)one course surveying Asian American History to 1965
2)one course surveying contemporary issues in Asian American Studies from 1965 to the present
what do i do??

I actually called the dept because I was thinking about applying as that major too. They asked me to send them a list of anything that might have to do with the major. After I did, they told me none of the classes offered at my school satisfy the pre-reqs. And that’s it - pretty much, they were no help. ):<

The only college that I know of (I may be wrong) that offers AAS pre-req courses is East Los Angeles College. (You can also try going through the ASSIST page for all the community colleges one by one…) But generally, you shouldn’t worry too much about the pre-reqs for majors that don’t have any listed on ASSIST. And since it’s not an impacted major, it’ll be fine. You’ll probably take those courses once you’re in to UCLA or wherever you wanna go.

Which CC?

oh i see. thanks
i go to chaffey college
it’s not one of the big ones like smc or something…
but i checked assist and smc or other big ones near LA and they don’t have agreements for the major either…
so are you just getting IGETC done?
do you think that will be good enough?
i can’t be in TAP because i went to a different university for 2 years so i only have 1 year to finish and transfer…

Oh, wow. And yeah, I’m doing IGETC. I’m thinking of putting down AAS as my alternative major and try to double major when I get there. I’m taking classes that have something to do with Asian studies too? I know they won’t count towards anything but it’s worth a shot.

I’m a Japanese major, and my prereqs are taking 2 years of Japanese courses as well as a Japanese civilization course. For AAS though, if you are in the LA area, I would suggest you go to East LA College. I go to LA City College, and they no longer offer any Asian American Studies courses (though they do have a lot of Asian culture courses about China, Japan, and Korea.) ELAC has at least 2 AAS courses. Try Pasadena City College as well.

Well I attend to Glendale College(LA Area) they offered one Ethnic Studies course related to Asian Americans maybe that could help you, here´s the link:
[GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE](http://secure.glendale.edu/schedules/deptsched.asp?term=20093&type=&dept=ETHNIC%20STUDIES)

lol i go to chaffey
