I’m stuck in such a cruddy situation. For the Thanksgiving holidays, I had planned to stay with a friend in New York city, and I already bought airline tickets. She ended up making last minute plans, which was an extremely crappy thing for her to do, and now I have nonrefundable airline tickets to New York (I go to school in D.C., originally from New Mexico)

I am wondering how can I find some last minute, inexpensive lodging for next week? Thanks for your help!

Wow, that sucks… What a nice friend you have. I would just go to NYC still… go sight seeing… enjoy some time by yourself. Couldn’t be that bad. Ask if you can bum at her place for a week and she can do whatever she wants…

Does your friend know you already bought the tickets? Like Bloopers said, would she still allow you to spend some time there even if she’s not there? Although, it might be awkward if it’s her parents’ home and you don’t know them.

If that’s not an option, what about cheap motels in small towns outside of DC? I’d sleep in all my clothes if I were you…but they’re usually fairly inexpensive. Do you have any other friends you could stay with? What about your family, are they not willing to fly you home for the holidays?

Check with your RA and see if there are any options for students with no where to go for Thanksgiving…some schools allow students to stay if they apply for it or pay extra, others will find students’ families who are willing to host students (usually for foreign students who can’t go back to their countries for only a few days, but it might be worth a try).

Have u called the airline to see if tickets r refundable? Is there someone going home for Thankgiving that u could go home with? Usually local students are happy to share their homes…in some ways it works out better for them too, as their parents grill them less and enjoy twice as many college stories. if my dd went to your school I would invite you home in a heartbeat!

I second Horsey…you should totally rent a hostel…they’re typically quite inexpensive. I remember last time I was in NYC with my sister, we stayed in a hostel. I forget the name of it…but it was decent…it was in manhattan so it was a good spot close to a lot of places. You can have fun by yourself for a few days explore the city and go shopping!..it’s NBD :)
