I am not a party type person but am hosting a double bday party for two of my kids this weekend. Our family and partners and the. My son’s in-law family - so about 12-15 of us.
DIL’s family is ALL ABOUT party themes . DIL in law had pity on us and picked a cute simple theme for this party for one of my daughters and my son: “No Where To Wear It Party” .
Basically break out that one outfit that you’ve been dying to wear, but have no event to wear it!
I don’t know what I’m wearing yet as my wardrobe is more casual and minimal- if I don’t wear it or love it I shouldn’t have it!
But if you were attending a party like this with close friends and family and there are no limitations - what would you wear?? What’s in your closet that you wish you had somewhere to wear it to??
I teased that I’d pull out my wedding dress. Guess what, it will not fit!!
I have the dress my mom wore to my wedding. My own wedding dress fell apart when one of my nieces tried to alter it (it was cheap even back then, so low expectations all around). My mom’s dress was gorgeous and expensive and fits me. No where to wear it-- would LOVE an excuse to unzip that garment bag! Very dated, very 80’s, huge shoulder pads but since it looks vintage I think I could get away with it!
I bought a white sun dress for a “white out” garden party that was unfortunately rained out and we could not make the rain date. The dress was cute and cheap so I kept it but haven’t yet worn it out…all white isn’t something I’d typically buy.
Cute, easy party theme! Bet there will be some fun outfits!
I might wear my MOG dress — it has sequins so doubt I will wear it much otherwise. Also bought a duster that goes with it that has 3D butterflies. Would wear that with it.
I would wear the gorgeous yellow dress I bought as my MOB dress and then decided that the fussy fabric would drive me insane. So it just hangs in my closet.
@abasket - great party theme! I might borrow the idea.
ETA: found the product image pic. That’s the dress - on a Saks model, not on me.
I am not good at theme parties - even Halloween. First things that came to mind are my MOG dress (it’s short, and not incredibly fancy) or a “little black dress” kind of thing (mine would actually be navy blue, but that concept). I have a dress I got on sale that can be fairly fancy, but also can be more casual, that I’ve yet to wear.
I have a blue tiered ombre ruffled party dress that I found for on clearance for $25 years ago and I’ve only had one occasion to wear it. It looks great on too ; )
Oh yeah - I also have a summer white dress I bought years ago, probably on clearance at Nordstrom rack, thinking I’d wear it for some occasion, and I never have. I think it’s got some “eyelet” lace on it and it’s definitely a summer dress. I also have a more turquoise one with an off-white lace overlay kind of thing… Off I go to see if I still own them or finally gave up and donated them.
I am also not good at such things. And my first thought was to wear a Halloween costume. H would probably wear one of his scary clown masks. Maybe we could go as a pair.
Do you have any of the dresses you wore for your kids’ weddings? I’d wear a pink sequined dress I wore to a Taylor Swift concert. Maybe I could pair it with hiking boots I never got to wear in Alaska because the hike got canceled due to poor weather.
My problem is that I’d need to lose some weight to be able to wear the things that call to me the most. Like I have this dress that i love, that I wore to my BFFs wedding 24 years ago. It’s still in my closet, hasn’t fit in 20 years. I need to get rid of it, but it’s like the most perfect beautiful dress I’ve ever had. Maybe I can use this as a clarion call to let it go and let it become someone else’s most perfect beautiful dress…
D was telling me about this theme just last weekend!
I have several outfits in my closet that have not been worn or have been worn just once. I’d have a hard time deciding. Picked up a jumpsuit yesterday that’s really cute, fits well - but is more of a crop pant, rather than full length. I’ve decided to keep it since it wasn’t too expensive. Could wear that !
I might wear my mother’s 1950 dress (from our costume box) … orange with white polka dots. Big poofy skirt. We call it the “Lucy dress”, and I sometimes wear for Halloween. A bit like this, but sleevelss and no apron.I Love Lucy Classic Dress Costume | LucyStore.com
I did think about wearing the dress from my son’s wedding which is just a short swingy dress with a little bling around the neck - I loved that dress! It is sleeveless though and weather is cool and we will probably be in and out with outside …so not sure how that would be!
@arisamp I think this is a current TikTok trend! My DIL sent us a video as an example!
