Nomination

Whats the real benefit of getting a nomination from a Senator as well as a Congresswoman? Its already a bit of a pain for congresswoman but the senator application process looks very painful, plus they only give 10 nominations to all of CA for senators, crazy!

The more nominations you receive, the greater your chances for an appointment. LOA do not count against the MOC’s allotment of 1 appointment per slate of nominees. Also, this may be the year in which the senator can nominate two slates of 10. (They can have 5 of their nominees in attendance at any one time, in addition to those who received LOA. Thus if there were dropouts or graduates so that there will be only three left for next year, they can nominate 20, 10 for each slate).

Logic would dictate that one would have a better chance of an appointment from the Representative’s slate as the competition would be less rigorous. After all, the Senator chooses from the entire state. Remember, however, that those with LOA will most likely receive senatorial nominations, and those don’t “count” against the quota. Thus if one is fortunate enough to receive a senatorial nomination, the odds actually are better for an appointment.

Go for it. Put in the effort, as painful as it may be.

which senator do i apply to? dianne feinstein or barbara boxer?

CA with the ladies in the high places.

nevermind, looks like its only feinstein, and the application isnt as bad as i remember it being, ill fill it out this afternoon.

CM, Are you sure the LOA candidates don’t count toward the MOC’s allotment? Where can I find that information? I don’t understand that rationale.

I just found that boxer has an application too… I think I’m just going to apply to feinstein and eshoo.

so when they look at my application at kings point, do they like to go “o wow he got a nomination from a senator of CA!”? or is nomination / no nomination just like a checkbox prereq that doesnt have much impact…

or by if you can get a senator nomination you have a higher chance of getting in, do you mean it like “if you get into harvard, you have a higher chance of getting into UCLA,” where the harvard part has no impact on the ucla part but the harvard part says you are probably good enough to get into the ucla part?

Taffy…

Sorry, late in responding here, but you really do need to apply for a nomination from both of your senators.

i don’t think i can make it in on time for the deadline for boxer. is it really necessary necessary?

taffy,

It is absolutely necessary that you buckle down and get ALL applications for nominations done as quickly as possible. And regarding your question about the value of one nomination over another - it doesn’t matter. A nomination is a nomination. You need one or you will not get into any service academy. If you receive more than one, your odds of receiving an appointment increase.
Get to work!! And get used to people saying, “Hurry up!”

Taffy…

Ditto to momoftwins reply!

One more thing…please make sure that you make a copy of everything you send. Plus, keep a file with deadline dates prominently displayed on a cover page and check them off as you submit what is due. Lastly, my son mailed everything priority (or express?) mail with confirmation receipts…sorry if this seems too “type A” but in the end the organization in this manner was very helpful…

So get to work

LOA’s are not charged against a MOC’s allotment of academy attendees. They must receive a nomination, but if they have 10 LOA candidates, all 10 could receive nominations and appointments (conceivably).

Taffy! Get it in gear buddy! No rest for the weary. Get every possible application for those nominations in. You can do it. Use over night mail if you have to. We want to see you at USMMA!! Don’t make me send Jamz over there! Oooo. Forgot to tell you. He’s taking Shotokan now. Loves it.

shogun, thanks for the information. I didn’t realize that information. That’s great! I appreciate your answer.
