Nominations

I received a letter from Isaakson’s office saying that they were colloborating and that i would not be recieving an interview with his board. I’m relaly dissapointed about this. I understand that my appointment would only come from one nomination, but they could rank me better if I had more then one.
:frowning: Dumb Georgia.

Glitterhairdye…don’t pick on Georgia. Last year when I called one of our CA senators and asked questions about my daughter getting an interview…and when I mentioned she had an LOA, the man replied: “We help the needy, not the greedy” and told me that they would definitely not even consider my child, it was our Congressman’s job to provide an interview and nomination. So don’t worry about the number of nominations. The year before, a close friend’s son had both a Senator and a Congressman nomination and did NOT get an Appointment ( the next year he reapplied, got a Congressman nomination and got it). So you see you aren’t necessarily guaranteed an Appoinment one way or another. Just do your best with the nomination interviews you do get, and trust the strength of your application. Hang in there and God speed!

Anybody know where I can pick up one of those Napoleon Dynamite Time Machines so I can fast forward to December? That’s when our Senators and Congressman (Governor in January) will announce. And not to rub it in to those of you in more populous states, but Idaho gets quite a few multiple noms.

And yes Napoleon Dynamite is from Idaho, just not my part of Idaho.

Ditto peskemom’s post. A nomination, or for that matter multiple nominations, does not guarantee an appointment.

Class of 2009:

Class of 2010:

Admitted - 1,215 (32%)

I have a question,

I recently received a nomination packet in the mail from my senator. Along with an interview date and time later in the month. I am only a junior in high school. Does this sound like they have made the mistake of me being a senior in high school? What should I do? I tried to call but they are closed today.

Thanks

GlitterHairDye: Don’t worry about not getting to interview with Isakson’s office. Just do your best with the interviews that you received. USNA looks at you as compared to the others within that nominating source so give it your best and don’t look back to the what if’s!

I got 1 nomination. My congressman gave me the Air Force nomination, one Senator interviewed but didn’t nominate me, the other sent me a “we regret to inform you that you did not make the cut” letter. Well, I’m here. Never let rejection get you down…it does not even matter as long as you get a nom. and the academy likes you.

I GOT MY NOMINATION TODAY!!!
It’s competitive and from the same person by really good friend got his. So that’s a good sign. I was flipping out when I read it. I didnt’ even read the whole letter, I just saw Congratulations! And I started yelling.
I have my Rep’s interview Saturday. I want to get that over with fast.

Oh man. That makes me feel so much better that I have that done…

Excellent!! I’m so happy for you!

We have to wait until December. Keep your fingers crossed.

Knock-em dead on Saturday.

Congratulations glitterhairdye- we’re all proud of this next step in your journey to join the class of 2011!

GlitterHairDye, was that from a Senator?

Yup. I have my congressman meeting saturday. Chambliss gave it to me. :)

Glitterhairdye: Congratulations! Another check on your checklist!

My son has been offered a LOA to play lacrosse at the academy. I have not seen the letter yet and l am hoping some members can clue me in to what it accually promises and how it will effect my son’s chances for a appointment

Well, it means that your son has a spot saved for him in the Class of 2011. It means he still has to go through the nomination process - still pass his medical, still complete senior year with good grades and above all stay healthy.

Last year from our high school my daughter had an LOA based on USNA’s decision ( no recruiting) and another wonderful young man was given an LOA at roughly the same time, recruited to play Navy Football. Both kiddos went through senior year in many of the same Advanced classes - both showed up on the same morning at our Congressman’s office for the nomination interview. Then both got their Appointments ( which were basically promised to them by USNA because of their LOA status, in January 06) (I have the cutest high school graduation photo taken at the school celebration with them and their high school diplomas, with the promise that 4 years from now - we’ll repeat the event in Annapolis!) Both showed up on I-Day 2006. They bump into each other at USNA now - smiling and supporting each other as high school and now USNA teammates.

So congratulations to your son! Navy LAX is intense and those who play on the teams always seem to be - at least in the photos this mom sees often posted on the dropshot sites - intense, focused, and hard working.

Thanks for the reply. One more question. My son had his interview with his Congressman this week. Should we have included the LOA as part of his package ?

If you didn’t, then there is nothing wrong with him bringing a copy of it to the interview and politely asking that it be added to his package for consideration.

Problem solved. :)

Our Congressman’s office informed us that USNA automatically sends an LOA to their office, in addition to the family. You may wish to confirm this with your contact person at the office - but that’s what we were told.

Irish Rover- welcome to CC, and welcome to Navy Lacrosse! Thought I would pass this site along: www.navylax.org

Won’t be long now until the REAL sports begin!!! ;)

Does any member know when Parents Weekend and I Day for the Class of 2011 is scheduled ?
