Nominations

I haven’t seen an exact date, but judging by last year I-day should be June 27th and PPW would be August 10th, 11th and 12th. I just looked at 2010s Calendar and moved them back a day.

Congratulations!

I just went to my interview yesterday with 8th District Congressman Charlie Norwood; had to travel 2.5 hours to get there, but I felt it went well and was worth it.

By the way, does anybody know of any uncompetitive districts in GA? Mine, 8th district, had only 15 or 17 people total apply for a nomination, and fifteen were scheduled to interview, with 1 no-show. AND apparently most were for USMA and USAFA, with only a couple, including me, for Annapolis. The word is that they will either nominate everyone to their requested academies, or nominate ten to all three. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

^^^^^
If your MOC doesn’t have a full slate for USMA and/or USAFA, you should try to get a nomination to those respective service academies. You want to keep your options open. Also, it doesn’t cost anything to ask.

FewAndProud16,

If possible, it would be to your advantage to request a nomination to all of the Academies, if you don’t really feel strongly about Annapolis. That will most certainly increase your chances of receiving an appointment from one of them. And it really is one big family, after all. Case in point, our nephew received a nomination from Cynthia McKinney’s committee to the USMMA and USAFA. He just graduated from Air Force this past year. Having a choice is always better for you.

Cynthia McKinney mailed out her noms already? Hmm I have to make a phone call and see if mine came in the mail…

Don’t know if Cynthia McKinney mailed or not, the situation I referred to was back in 2002.

I wouldn’t apply to multiple SA’s just because of acceptence chances. That’s like saying, if I apply to 15 schools I have a better chance of getting in somewhere…but do you want to go there? I decided that Navy was for me, so ROTC is my backup. Maybe, you just want to serve in any way you can…in that case, apply to all 5 academys.

I JUST GOT MY NOMINATION!! (again;-)
Just found out today that I received one from my MOC. Im really hopin I get one from one of my senators, but we shall see. I’m not sure in my senators ‘talk’ to the MOC’s, but hopefully, my hard work in collge will start to pay off.
Good luck to all!

Jason

I want to get the nomination to Annapolis, though I would certainly be grateful for a nomination to USMMA. As for USAFA, in my interview Monday I found the question I hated answering the most was when the USAFA grad asked me why I hadn’t requested a nom for his school, to which I replied that I knew very little about the Air Force and had very little interest in it ever since my eyesight disqualified me for flying. He seemed satisfied with my answer, but boy it wasn’t my favorite question.

So, I am hoping that my MOC nominates each applicant according to what he requested, since most requested USMMA and USAFA noms.

Congratulations mighty rooster!

Are you saying that the senators might find out you already have a nomination and then pass over you?

One of my senators actually asked me to notify them if I got a nomination somewhere else. I was kind of disappointed. What I really don’t want to happen is to get a nomination to my second choice, then be looked over on my first choice by the senator because I was nominated to my second choice.

I’ve heard that in some states, the MOC’s and Senators do ‘talk’ to each other so that the maximum amount of candidates can be nominated. But this year, at least for me, is a little different. My MOC was just defeated in the past election and he may just be getting the noms out really soon, considering the pervious time I was nominated by him, I didnt hear about it until mid Januaray. I guess Ill just have to wait and see.

congrats mightyrooster!

don’t worry too much about the senator nom…all you need is ONE!!!

I GOT MY SECOND NOMINATION TODAY!
From Cynthia McKinney. And she placed me number 2. I wish I was number one but oh well I can’t get it all. And they decided to puit my application back into the regulra pool as opposed to the college student ones.

So yay! Today is a happy day.

Keep these nomination reports coming!! It makes my day!!!

I got my nomination today too from my MOC! So, once my medical remedial gets finished (paperwork is processed), I guess they can look at my package for an appointment? Is it much harder to get an appointment at this point, being in MD? or is it only the nom process that’s much harder?

I am after noms from VP, MOC, and Sen. This week, my JROTC commandant handed me a copy of letter of “nomination” he sent to USNA for me. My HS is a JROTC Honor Unit With Distinction. What does this “nomination” mean in scheme of things? (I’m already academically qualified, medically/fitness approved)

Grant - your nomination info gets sent to USNA and they look at you from their pool - and the rest is up to them. It’s quite interesting to hear how many people think ‘their’ area is harder than others to get an Appointment from. OK, you’re not from Montana…so Maryland is more competitive than that. But people from Texas, California ( as we are), New York, New Jersey…all think it’s harder for them because of the pool. You’ll drive yourself into insanity if you obsess too much about this. Just continue to work hard, prepare yourself to be the best, stay on top of all your paperwork and deadlines, work hard in your senior year and let this process continue. Good luck and God speed.

This means that you get to compete for one of 20 appointments in the JROTC category.

GA - do you know more about how the NROTC nominations work. I read somewhere there are 150-200 nominees per year, and as you said, 20 appointments from that population. Do they use the same process as MOC nominations - must be triple Q’d and then go by whole person points? I would assume nearly all candidates are Q’d given they ar JROTC or ROTC. Do most ROTC nominees also have MOC nominations?
Thanks.

^^^^^^
The admissions process is the same regardless of nomination source. Candidates should apply for a nomination from all sources where they meet the eligibility requirements. At a minimum, candidates should apply for nominations from their Representative and two Senators.
