Non- academic Recommendations

Hi!

I have a question. Two and a half years ago I finished high school, got into some interesting project and decided to take gap year. As I got deeper into this project I decided to extend my gap year to three gap years. And this year I decided to apply. The problem is that I am not so much in touch with the teachers I used to have back in HS and I think that their recommendation would not be as authentic as I wish.

My question is - could I get one of the two recommendations I need from a non-academic source (in this case, my current project employer)?

Thank you very much,

The college website is always the final word, but the general rule for fr admissions is that if LORs are required, they need to come from teachers in academic subjects. If you’re applying as a non-traditional to a program like Columbia GS, their LOR requirements may be different, again the college website will instruct you.

And finally, you can always call the Admissions office of a school, explain your situation and ask if there are any exceptions that can be made.
