I’m taking this non college-prep course, basically a cooking class, but I have a B because I’m late everyday (it’s first period…) Do colleges look at non college-prep courses? When they give us our non-official transcripts to look at I see the class, and it factors into my overall GPA at school. I thought that colleges recalculate your GPA to fit their requirements, but my friend said that since they have so many applicants they just look at the GPA printed on your transcript…

Each college or university that you apply to will have its own individual way of interpreting your transcript. Some will look at your over-all GPA, some will only look at “college-prep” GPA. But, frankly, it is really dumb to get to class late every single day and let that pull your grade (and hence your GPA) down. If your late arrival is due to factors that are completely out of your control, then you need to meet with your teacher to ask what to do to bring your grade up into the range that you believe you are capable of. If the late arrivals are due to factors within your control you have two choices: a) accept the B and live with whatever it does to your GPA, or b) take responsibility and fix those factors so that you can be in class on time.
