non-Harvard student attend Harvard lectures?

Can a university student in the Boston area attend Harvard (or MIT or Boston U for that matter) lectures or special events such as these? Or is it pretty exclusive? I am not from a city with a lot of Universities, so I do not know how it works there. At the University where I am from, if there is a lecture going on, pretty much anyone can come in without notice. Thanks for any help on this matter.

The big lectures are big enough that you can just walk in (preferably on-time) and sit there and no one will notice…
I wouldn’t try doing it for some smaller ‘lecture’ classes though because then the professor pretty much knows all their students.

As for special events, I think you’re pretty much free to attend those too although sometimes you may need a Harvard ID to get into the building.

I mean theoretically you could but why bother?

I assume because some people like to learn even if they cannot put it on their cv or transcript.

I assume anyone who goes to school close enough to Harvard is already at a place that houses equally impressive lectures. And if he/she/it doesn’t then the total commute would be longer than the lecture itself.

Most speakers or debates on campus are open to the public. It will usually say at the bottom of the poster or flier.

Briseis: exactly right.
