Non-major course grades?

I’m an econ major and as the end of the semester closes in, my intro. to sociology prof. just announced that if you skipped more than 3 lectures, you’re grade will drop by 10%…

****…

that class never sparked my interest and i hated it. i hated his teaching style and the way he lectured so i skipped at LEAST 4 classes. I’ve been going through my notes to see the dates I took notes, and it seems like I might have missed even 5 lectures…

The grades I’ve been getting on the tests and papers are in the high 80s (88s, 87s) so I’d be getting a B+ or w/e without participation.

Now, if it drops 10%, that basically puts me in the C+ range… ***!! I know this is my fault and I have no one else to blame but me, but will a C in a course unrelated to economics hurt my grad school prospects?

Maybe…your GPA will definitely drop.

It will hurt your GPA…but aside from that it depends what type of grad school program you are interested in.

That doesn’t seem entirely fair. If it wasn’t on the syllabus he shouldn’t be able to change the game after it’s already started. I would talk to him about it and see what you can do. If he’s hard headed about it I would talk to the department head.

Most teachers put a statement on their syllabus stating they can change it at any time. If the teacher doesn’t have it, then I would challenge it.
