Hi!
Just got accepted to UCLA Design Media Arts program for Fall 2013! I honestly could not believe I got in and of course am really set on attending. It is an amazing opportunity that I would feel stupid turning down! However, the non-resident tuition is pretty steep for me considering my mom was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer a few years back and it had drained my college fund.

Trying to convince my parents that taking out a loan and such will be worth it because of how great the program is and how much better my job will be if I attend UCLA.

Does anyone know the average salary a graduate of UCLA’s DMA program receives? This would be great to add into my argument that I will be able to pay back my loan.

I should be able to receive in-state tuition my second year and on because I will be living and working in LA year-round starting this summer 2013.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Oh hey, congratulations! I was also accepted into D|MA, so I hope to see you there.

I can’t help you with the specifics of OOS financing, but I can say, unfortunately, that’s it’s probably going to be difficult to argue the salary route. It’s relatively hard to guess what one will make after graduating. Viable careers include art directors/designers (which is what I’ll be pursuing), but at the entry level, typical salaries are ~30-40k.

Wow, congrats on making D|MA guys. I applied there and unfortunately I got rejected. This is off-topic, but do you guys mind posting your portfolios and/or your stats (SAT, GPA, etc.)?
