non Trad mom looking to bump up ECs

Hello all!

How have some of the non trad moms tried to bump up their EC’s to appear more attractive to colleges? and does it matter HOW long youve taken part in the EC activities?
Understandably so, I have been pressed for time since work, school and child rearing. So what are some of the ways you guys incorporated this into your life?

well, its good to have a support system. I would take up an EC that relates to your major and also demonstrates leadership abilities.

*Also, if I may add… 10 hrs min is not much if you break it down throughout the week. I do 5hrs on sat and 5hrs on tuesdays.

sounds good! does it matter how long youve been doing the ECs before you report them?

I have been doing it for almost a month now. But, I am getting a head-start since I am going to be a freshman this fall.

to the answer to your question, I don’t know. I would do some research on it.

May I ask what you are majoring in or considering to major in?

The best ECs are those that add dimension to your application, telling the admissions officers about your passions and commitments. Whether or not they are related to your major is irrelevant.

Sure, it’s good to get campus leadership experience. But, isn’t it best to be yourself and demonstrate your real interests? So, take something you already care about and engage in it more effectively/formally.

my apologies for getting back so late lanaMP…

i am looking to major in neuroscience/behavioral & cognitive sciences
or something along those lines.

For the mean time… in cc… through yourself into PTK hardcore. I did Phi Theta Kappa and my school scholars program. I held office in PTK, and organized events. It gave me the schools nomination to the All USA All Academic team nomination, placement on the ALL ILLINOIS academic team, and the Coca cola gold scholar 2010 (1 out of 50 awarded nationally) which was enough to guarantee me a spot at a top LAC, and seven sister!!!

Yes, throw yourself into PTK but realize it’s not too competitive to stay in (3.5+), and that it’s only an agent to do great things but nothing on its own.

Wolfman, not really… holding office in PTK is a different story… I know several on the international officers who are now Alums… and that were earlier this week appointed to a (I believe Presidential although it may be congressional) committee to address problems facing community colleges. Also, the recognition gained through creating successful events, and the ability as officers to make your vision come true is definately something worthwhile to schools…

I said: "it’s only an agent to do great things but nothing on its own. "

Then you said, “not really…”

But then said:

“creating successful events”
“ability as officers to make your vision come true”

Thanks for agreeing with me! Also, being an international officer isn’t something most people do in PTK.
