Non-Trad Student...Should I Return to GW?

I started college at GW back in the fall of 2001 and finished 31 credits during my freshman year. My grades weren’t the greatest (3.2 gpa), but I loved my classes and loved the school. However, I enlisted in the military after my freshman year, left school, and eventually got married and had children.

I applied for re-admit at GW and was accepted. However, I am now kind of having cold feet… Should I bother going back to a “regular” college this late in life? Wouldn’t it be kind of strange to be among people 2-3 years younger than me? Should I just go to some non-traditional/evening school?

Also, I am concerned about the availability of child care and housing around GW… Bright Horizons is much too expensive ($1000 per child per month). Anyone have experience with this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Daisymom,

I’m non-trad too. I’m a 24 year old female (not married, no kids, but in a 4 year long relationship with my bf) and I’m a Sergeant in the Reserves with lots of military training and overseas time. I applied to GW and was accepted - I’m considering going even though of course I’ll be older than the regular student, but so far everyone I’ve met from GW is very open and accepting. You should go on a campus visit even though you know where everything is. That way you can walk around with the students and get a feel for how it might be.

Don’t worry too much about it - I think you’ll fit right in.
