Non-traditional field change possible? Biology to some kind of bioengineering?

Hello,

I’m graduating this June with a BS in molecular and cell biology. I really enjoy that my major has taught me a lot of the essentials for gene manipulation (PCR, molecular cloning, etc.), but there are times where I feel like it is too theoretical which puts me at a disadvantage if I want to do something besides teaching. I think I am most interested in synthetic biology (for example, reprogramming cells as bio reactors to make useful enzymes, building recombinant DNA molecules, etc). Is there anyone who is doing biomolecular engineering or something similar (or someone who knows about it? If I wanted to do biomolecular or biochemical engineering, would I need to go back to school for a BS or could I continue with a master’s?

Edit: I just realized this question has been answered… Seems a lot of people had the same idea.
