Non Traditional PhD Applicant

I’d love candid reactions to this.

Late 40’s. 20 years of successful applied consulting in business-related field (ILR,HR)
Undergraduate 3.2 at upper tier liberal arts school 3.8 in undergrad major
MA in related, but not identical field 3.89 GPA
Published, but non-academic
GRE 800 V 590 Q, 5.5 Writing

Too old? Too low in quant? Applying to top and mid tier ILR type programs. Very strong SOP, only one academic recommendation. Will they invest in someone who does not have 50 years to put into tenure track work?

Business fields generally strongly prefer applicants with years of business experience.

However, since I am not in a business field, I cannot comment on your qualifications.

To make the pic more accurate, I actually got a 6.0 in the AW part. I was guessing, but got official results today.

Are you by chance considering ILR/HR schools? I know Cornell has one of the best programs, and you might have a decent chance of admittance given your background.

Yeah, it’s my first, second and third choice.
