In my optional page 217 essay, I frankly discussed the fact that I’m gay and that in the future I hope to be involved in a committed relationship with another guy. I read over the university’s nondiscrimination policy that states that discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is prohibited…yet I worry that disclosing my sexuality could rub the admissions committee the wrong way. What do you think?

No, I do not believe they will hold your sexual orientation against you.

I definitely don’t think they will hold it against you at all.

Good luck!

way too many people in the penn lgbt community would be up in arms if it were held against you

Personally, I think it may help you not hinder you.

Thanks for your opinions! This makes me feel better.

Good thing it is not your university then. Judging by the way you talk you probably call Stern or Brigham Young University home.

Ignore the homophobe. Nothing wrong with being gay, as long as you’re not super feminine about it (even then, its not wrong, just creeps me and a lot of other straight guys out).

No one can say for sure whether it will affect your chances at Penn, but it shouldn’t. Penn is in the City of Brotherly Love after all.
