I’m just wondering how many “normal” people get in . The normal three varsity sports athlete who is not truly exceptional in the sense person with a 4.0uw and 4.78w with ave. SAT score of 1460 and does volunteer work but not truly great at anything in particular. I guess its called “well-rounded” now-a-days.

And you call yourself normal and not exceptional? :p

Lol yea I agree…there is nothing “normal” about the description you gave…3 sports, high GPA, solid SATs, are all impressive. I get what you mean though…you are talking about someone who is great and well rounded, but not AMAZING. I tend to think that there aren’t that many amazing applicants (winners of national competitions, etc), but a lot of really good ones. And once you become one of those applicants, it is all splitting hairs in your application and it depends on what the adcoms are looking for. Good luck!

I know I’m the only guy from my football team applying to any top schools, I feel out of touch sometimes with folks on this board…

I do debate too, so it’s not completly new, but I dunno…

what school do you go to cityknight06

Baltimore City College

wow, what about us subnormal people? i mean the 3.7 gpa’d, top 10% 1 sport and 1360 gpa?

I got in ED, and I’d consider myself fairly normal for a Princeton applicant. I have good test scores (except for a 600 literature) and am first in my class at a small, somewhat rural high school, which doesn’t really stand out too much. Furthermore, while I’m very involved in music (trumpet and piano), I haven’t won any national or state competitions, and I didn’t make conference all state on the trumpet. I’m pretty sure that my essays and recommendations got me in… I think that for any marginal applicant, the essays and recs are what really make the difference…

I’m fairly normal too.

so is being val with phenomenal test scores the norm then? what did everyone at Pton get on the sat’s? also does anyone get in with a low rank like 30/300? (not me) thx!

I have no clue as to what are my matches ,safeties out of reaches So Please Please tell me

How are you only 16?

Ouuuu another thread hijacker …

1 thing- EC’s DO MATTER …

Agreed. ECs matter at least as much as grades and test scores, and (along with your essays) serve to distinguish you from the other qualified applicants.

Except that many people have similar or same ECs

well a lot of people have the same Ecs but I think it depends on what the school is looking for that year and how much of a commitment you have to the clubs. for example, i’m on my school’s yearbook staff. i’m sure they get many applicants who have been on yearbook, but I have had numerous leadership positions every year (Senior Section and Mag Editor, Organizations Editor, and Editorial Board this year alone) and spend 24 + hrs/ week basically year round working on it. If they are looking for a yearbook person, I think I may have an edge over other applicants who do not have that type of commitment to it.

Ya, I agree; Biology or premed is one of the hardest majors to apply for but I interned as a veterinary technician, volunteered at a cancer center, will start research in the labs soon, am making medical play dolls for the children’s department, and am training as an EMT so i think that shows more commitment

I guessed i needed normal peoples advice
