North Texas Annual BlueChip Dinner

alright, so i’ve been invited to attend the North Texas annual Blue Chip Dinner…and the Supe is coming! also mids, parents of mids, and some alums.

the attire is ‘sunday dress’ and coat & tie for men.

for ladies, what do you consider appropriate for this event? i figure a pant/skirt suit, or a cocktail dress, but i’m not sure. i would prefer a cocktail dress, but it’s difficult to find a cute dress that is modestly cut at the top O_O.

anyways, just wanted to hear thoughts on this.

is anyone else going?

Yep, i was invited and I’m going

i go to jesuit so i have no fashion sense and have no clue what ladies should wear

My son, my husband, and I are going. Roger Staubach is supposed to be there. The organizer said to make sure Spider talked to him since Roger did the NMMI/Academy route just as Spider plans to. See you guys there.

Make sure to put sandiegodude1607 and usna_aviationgirl on your name tags. Just kidding. :)

Spider is McKinney North HS. Where are you guys from?

I’m wearing a black cocktail dress with a kind of a matching thin sweater thingy.

I go to Jesuit and live in Highland Park

I go to Jesuit and live in Highland Park. I attend mass on Saturday nights at the same time as Staubach. He’s a really nice guy and you should definately talk to him.

Jesuit’s a fabulous school. Your training as “a man for others” will serve you well at the academy. Looking forward to meeting you (and Roger).

This is Sandiegodude’s mom posting for the first time as my son flew off to Switzerland right after the dinner. Did everyone have a good time? We actually ran into people we have not seen in years. My husband was a submariner for 26 years retiring last year. We ran into friends from Japan, Norfolk, San Diego and D.C. This is one of the best facets of a Navy career! Everyone from the Admisssions Office was very positive and upbeat and said even though no appointments have gone out to North Texas yet they should be coming out soon.(11 LOA’s have been issued) I think they are waiting for the MOC’s nomination decisions which come out early January.

the dinner was indeed most excellent…i enjoyed meeting the mids that i didnt even know where there, which was great, and the admissions staff and roger staubach X) and the SUPE!

my table was awesome, we had an admissions directorate, a current mid, and her boyfriend who’s at AFA, which was cool to hear both sides :)

great experience, i hope next year, i’m one of those mids who spoke :)

What a great time. First Navy dinner I’ve been to where no one threw rolls. :)

Loved hearing from the mids. They were all so articulate and poised (of course). Got to talk to Staubach about NMMI a little bit. Thought the Supe was excellent. So was the dessert. Earlier in the day, Spider had an encouraging interview with the admissions director so maybe a direct appointment isn’t out of the question.

Hope Sandiegodude1607 has fun in Europe. Was hoping to get to chat with him and usna_Aviation, too. Some other time, I hope. Good luck to you both. Happy holidays.
