Northeastern Early Action / Early Decision Class of 2030 Official Thread

It would also help if people are willing to indicate if they have financial need - my understanding is that can be a factor at certain places!

Agree that financial need is probably a big consideration esp for programs like NUin. We are full pay and I’m sure that was a factor. Our HS acceptance rate at Northeastern is 40 percent but it’s almost all NU.in and Oakland, very few to Boston to start

NEU is need aware. Whether that’s factoring in, I dunno - guessing moreso at NUIN.

Last year 1384 of 2754 got need aid averaging $58.7K.. 358 got merit averaging $16K.

So about half get need aid - and yes, they can factor that into admissions decisions.

Given the high need awards, they might be seeking the wealthy and the poor/implied minorities (since they can’t know for sure anymore - unless from essays, etc). Just a guess.

Son got into NU In, mech engineering, no merit, oos. Really wanted Boston so we’ll see what he decides. Also was really hoping for at least a little merit. It was his #3 choice but #1 and #2 are definitely reach schools and he won’t hear from them until March. His safety which he has been accepted to is a third of the price. 3.8 uw, 4.5 weighted, 1510 SAT, average ec’s.

D26 got in blended major CS plus Design, but first year in Oakland. only 5 K scholarship for the first year.

Engineering - if you’re a value person, the safety ROI will be greater. By far.

If you choose NU, please make sure the NUIN works well with engineering - as the curriculum is typically rigid.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

DS Accepted to London campus (1yr) for business. 3.9 UW, 1530/34, 9 or 10 APs.

Question - if you’re accepted to a non-Boston campus, is that set in stone or is there a process to request a change? Probably should know this but didn’t research this aspect of the school. Kid is happy but not sure how to think about the 1st year in London.

It is sort of set in stone. A large number of students are admitted with a non-Boston start even though they would prefer Boston, and I am sure that they don’t want everyone requesting to switch to Boston…

I do remember one student here on CC who was able to negotiate switching to Boston for medical reasons. So it may depend on the reason.

My daughter was fortunate enough to be offered the Boston campus. From the south shore. Engineering major. Best wishes to you.

All campus assignments are final. As mentioned, if there is a medical reason that would prevent the student from going overseas it will be considered, with medical documentation.

DD was accepted to London Scholars. w4.55/uw3.6, psychology, lots of leadership & awards in her ECs. This came as a happy surprise. There was no mention of merit, only a letter that says we should fill out the FAFSA. We weren’t planning on filling it out bc we know we will get no aid. Is there a possibility they will notify of merit later? Or is all merit given upon acceptance?

For my son, it was a separate link says something like “Scholarship decision”.

Did anyone get an email? My son did not, we only know because he checked portal. He did not get a scholarship letter- so assuming that’s not coming.

DD got an email to check her portal last night (she already knew EA decision were out bc they posted on their IG).

Merit is awarded upon acceptance. Most admitted students don’t receive merit.

My daughter got a congratulations email this morning. No merit for her, either.

was wondering which option better for Business finance if you don’t get Boston start.

  1. NYU Start
  2. Oakland start
  3. NUIN start 1st semester abroad.
My son got admitted to NYU Start yesterday.

I meant Newyork scholar program.

i used to go to the Mills College campus for my daughter’s swim meets. It’s a beautiful campus surrounded by a residential neighborhood, almost suburban feel. Yet it’s not far to all the amazing stuff that Oakland Berkeley and SF have to offer- great food, concerts museums etc.
