NMF scholarships have not been that high in years. For the last few years they say NMF is only a “competitive scholarship”. It ranges but seems to top around $15k these days.
@WaitingIsTheHardest Deferred as well. Chances of acceptance is pretty low. Our college advisor recommends we move on if deferred. My D is holding out for BC, which is why she isn’t going ED2.
Is that even close. I thought Purdue CS is much better, is that not correct?
D has been accept to 6 other schools and we’re still waiting for 3 more so she will defer to RD for NEU and we’ll just see what happens. She has good options they’re just not HER #1.
My D is in the same boat. She applied ED2 to BC so we are really hoping it works out. Best of luck!
FYI, Northeastern does not admit students via major. Further, any merit scholarships offered are provided at the time of admission.
I would recommend changing to EDII if Northeastern is your top choice. However, also send a letter of continued interest.
Hi, last night I got into the honors program, Does anyone know if I can attend without going into the program? Obviously I’m grateful to be considered, but I’d have to live in the honors LLC but was hoping to be able to live in a thematic one. Thank you!
Not sure but Honors in the past came with some perks, including grants to cover the cost of Dialogues of Civilizations.
The experience will of course be dependent on each student as everyone is different. London itself was a great time for my daughter–great city that is easy for US students to acclimate to, find their way around etc. The school and her housing (she was in Chapter Spitalfields) are in great neighborhoods that are diverse, trendy, and historic all at once. The school building is on the water with a gorgeous view of Tower Bridge. “Campus” is just one building if you will, but in a broader sense, all of London is essentially their campus. It’s a true urban university experience.
Students will become independent very quickly. It is entirely up to them what they make of it all. My daughter went to events and workshops organized by the university, but only this year in Boston did she join meaningful clubs and start to build her college experience that way. Last year was very much about being in London, living the European life, traveling etc. And since it’s London, just know that life is generally expensive. We had her on a monthly budget for food shopping/eating out, but all her traveling and personal expenses there were paid from her own savings which she’d accumulated working during high school.
She was undeclared and started out in the Explore program. So, she took a variety of classes to pinpoint what direction she wanted to take the next three years in. In the end, her intro to marketing, international business and global markets classes really interested her and so once back from London, she spoke to her Explore advisor and said she would like to declare her major as business administration/marketing. This fall semester she took all business-related classes and she officially entered D’Amore McKim in December.
One con is she couldn’t start the coop process until this semester, as students are required to be on Boston campus two semesters before they can go on coop. So she is now enrolled in the coop class and will begin sending out resumes and interviewing to find a position for the summer 2/fall coop cycle (so the first half of her third year). She also feels a little behind in the sense that others have established roles/relationships in many of the academic clubs and organizations like sororities. But she’s putting herself out there and trying to do as much as she can to become a part of it all now.
Thank you very much. That’s a great summary and what to expect!
Good luck to your daughter too.
Honestly the themed LLCs do very little and the honors dorm is very nice, so you might want to speak to some current students about this. If you don’t know any, there are “Husky Ambassador” students you could speak to.
There are many benefits, including the paid for study abroad and funding for your research, all on top of the half ride honor scholarship.
My daughter read over the terms of admissions and accepted them but she has not 100% decided on Northeastern. She just thought she was agreeing to the terms for what is required for grades, classes, etc… she is waiting on the financial aid package. Will this hurt her in anyway? Will they now think she is definitely going to Northeastern and not give her grant money? She has not paid the deposit. I think she just thought she needed to complete all the steps on the applicant status page.
This was for early application.
If she has not paid the deposit, she is not committed.
Do you think that signing that will make them think she is enrolling no matter what the aid turns out to be? I just don’t want it to affect her aid. Her twin got considerable institutional aid due to 2 siblings in school. She applied ED.
The east village dorm for honors students is a really nice “smart” building and is air conditioned! The extra work for honors is negligible. And the kids you’ll meet in honors are very smart and ambitious. I would talk to kids in honors before you forfeit this opportunity.
Hi, my daughter got accepted to NE and would need to go to one of three cities abroad the first semester o support her engineering. Trying to understand what this connections scholarship is, and if she chooses NE as a National merit finalist if that would take precedent over this one. She;s very excited and we are hoping to go see Boston in Feb. Thanks for any info on the scholarships and/or the abroad programs in Florence, Madrid or Dublin/N Ireland if anyone knows.
Should I change my application preferences to not test optional if I changed my first choice to the NUin program if I was deferred. 1400 SAT so I didn’t submit initially but wondering if it would be beneficial to submit because NUin is easier to get into.
after being accepted , does one have to do anything else or wait for May 1st to make a decision after all offers are in? when does one hear of merit?
