Northeastern N.U.In for computer science

Have a S Tufts CS or N.U.IN CS any thoughts ?

What is a “S Tufts”?

CS is quite sequential and the last Nu.in campus I checked didn’t have the 1st semester CS classes, so you’d need to check, look at the Boston 1st semester plan, and make sure the same classes are offered on the other campus, or you’ll be behind.

Tufts is very good for STEM.

I took this to mean that you have a son who has been accepted to both Tufts (presumably starting at their Medford campus) and to NEU starting abroad with their N.U.In program, to study computer science. Did I get this right?

Are the finances okay for both schools? Both these schools say that they meet full need. Depending upon your circumstances and how they compute need, this might make them affordable or might make them very expensive for you.

Where would your student be starting at NEU? Have you checked which classes are available there?

Do you have other choices?

Tufts is quite good for a wide range of majors, including CS. I also like the area around their campus. Northeastern is similarly very good for a wide range of majors, including CS. I do not know much about N.U.In. On the one hand I like the idea of seeing a different part of the world. On the other hand, I do not know what classes are available at their remote sites. I could see starting with some math fundamentals and general education requirements and catching up on CS specific stuff after returning to Boston. I also like NEU’s commitment to the coop program, including for CS where real world experience can be very valuable.

My first reaction is that you have two very good choices, and might need to choose depending upon which feels like a better fit for the student or perhaps which is more affordable.

NU.IN will only offer abroad locations that fit your major (contingent on the fact you choose a location before the deadline of June 1st, if you don’t then you could possibly lose out on CS classes during your abroad semester).
