Northeastern received a record 105,092 undergraduate applications for the 2025-26 academic year

With all the success they’ve had in selling their university, Northeastern must surely be the place to go if you want to learn marketing.

I honestly don’t see how one can blame the school for compiling stats a certain way because of what parents do on social media. Or, conversely, blame parents/families for being excited because of the way the school shows stats. When D19 got accepted at her top choice college, we did post a happy post on social media. Did we post that it was for her second choice program? No, because it didn’t matter in that she was still on track to end up with the major and campus she had applied for.

Obviously as with anyone I would only have looked at websites of a small % of the total number of colleges out there, but so far UIUC is the only one I have seen that publishes admit rates for first choice. Does anyone know how many other colleges do this?
Edit to add UIUC link for this Admit Rates, Undergraduate Admissions, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

My student’s friends, who all graduated last May, are at Jane Street, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, etc. My student was offered a job at Tesla.

Like most colleges discussed here, Northeastern provides outcome stats. These are more meaningful than anecdotal reports of a small handful. Northeastern outcome stats seem to be all over the map, with a strong dependence on major.

For example, among 2024 grads with a BS in psychology

  • 56% Employed Full Time, 29% Grad School, 2.5% Seeking Work
  • Median starting salary was $40 to $49k (53% in this range). Max reported salary was $90 to $100k.
  • The companies include several hospitals, as well as places like Mel’s Family Diner .

For economics majors

  • 61% Employed Full Time, 25% Grad School, 7% Seeking Work
  • Median starting salary was $70 to $79k (28% in this range). Max reported salary was $100 to $110k.
  • The companies include Goldman Sachs and BCC, but not Jane Street. Employers also include places like Marrlowees Footwear.

For CS majors

  • 79% Employed Full Time, 12% Grad School, 4% Seeking Work
  • Median starting salary was $110 to $120k (18% in this range). Max reported salary was not specified (43% > $120k).
  • There are a large number of different companies including employers like Amazon, Apple, and Google; as well as employers that few on this site would recognize.
