Northeastern University 2019 EA

I seem to be finding conflicting info on Northeastern’s website, if we are accepted EA before the first semester ends do we need to send first semester grades? does Northeastern require a midyear report once you are admitted?

once admitted, you need to send your final transcript. im fairly sure that’s all they need to see as they usually only want midyear reports from deferred candidates

@tbrixton my daughter must have similar scores to your child because she was also offered the Dean scholarship at Fordham and we were hoping for Semifinalist scholarship

Decision: Deferred
SAT/ACT: 29 ACT
GPA: 3.75 (uw), 5.0 (w)
State/Country: Florida
Major: Health Sciences
Did you apply for FA?: yes

If you were deferred… welcome to the club! be positive! deferred doesnt mean we’re denied!

@soccer2019 If you have been admitted, all you need to send is final transcript in June.

Decision status: accepted w deans scholarship of 21k
ACT: 34
GPA:3.95 UW
Lots of extracurriculars (prob what got me in)

For those admitted, do you guys have any information on your portal?

My counsellor told me that the acceptance rate for this EA round was 17% with around 32,000 total EA applicants. Anyone know how this compares to last year?

Wow - accepted but it’s still way over the top expensive. Ohio State engineering it is…

Considering @Taylie1768 post above, do either @PengsPhils and/or @TomSrOfBoston have any info on the typical acceptance rate for ED? What about for ED2?

@BrooklynRye In the past NU stated that they try to equalize the EA and RD acceptance rates. I have never seen ED acceptance rates published.

Is there anything else a person can send after a LOCI to show more demonstrated interest?

@BrooklynRye
From 2017-2018 common data set

Number of early decision applications received by your institution 953

Number of applicants admitted under early decision plan 361

Decision: Deferred
SAT/ACT: 1420
GPA (out of 100): 96.5 (for first 3 years)
State/Country: NJ
Major: Business Administration: Finance
Did you apply for FA?: Yes

Can anyone tell me if I will have a better chance getting in RD if I change my major to Computer Science or Mathematics? If so, which major has a better shot?

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen an EA acceptance rate before so it’s hard to say. The overall acceptance rate was 19% so assuming they are more or less equal would make sense and point to a small shift down, expected with the overall pattern over the past 5 years and given top schools acceptance rates generally dropping with increased applicant numbers.

You are not admitted by major so change your major as you would like to study, not to game admissions.

I can tell you the acceptance rate because I’m a counselor in my real life and Northeastern sends us an email with basic stats. The school actually lets counselors know 15 minutes to an hour before they start to release decisions but they ask us not to tell students. I always abide by that request – this year I didn’t say anything to my own child who was an applicant. I let him be surprised.

This year, ED: almost 1,500 applications for ED I and offered fall admission to approximately 550 of the applicants.

EA: We received more than 31,000 applications for EA, representing an increase of 4% over last year. As a result of this increase and our desire to balance the admission opportunities for RD applicants, we are offering Fall 2019 admission to 17% of the applicant pool.

They receive about half as many EDII apps as EDI but I’ve never had a student apply EDII so I don’t know the acceptance rate. My guess is it’s a little lower than EDI but it probably depends on the applicant pool.

From last year’s email:

We received more than 30,000 applications for EA, representing an increase of 22% over last year. As a result of this increase and our desire to balance the admission opportunities for RD applicants, we are offering Fall 2018 admission to 18% of the applicant pool.

As you may know, we also offered an Early Decision I Program (ED I), and those students received their decision notifications last month. We received 1,110 applications for ED I and offered fall admission to approximately 475 of the applicants.

For the HS Class of 2017, the numbers were 28% accepted EA (24K apps) and 27% accepted ED I. (number of apps 950)

That’s as far back as I have saved emails.

Many thanks @piesquared !

To summarize the acceptance rates:

EDI:
2017: 27%
2018: 43%
2019: 37%

EA:
2017: 28%
2018: 18%
2019: 17%

Overall Rates:
2017: 28%
2018: 19%
2019: TBD

It’s worth noting this does not consider the strengths of each pool and how much of a bump to your chances ED/EA would actually give. It’s also worth considering the EA deferral to RD acceptances would not be counted in the EA acceptance rate, so it makes sense for the acceptance percentage to be lower than overall for EA.

A 4% applicant increase, if it holds the same in RD, would mean likely an 18.5%ish acceptance rate, so in line with last year’s 19% overall.

Same here, I am really excited about Northeastern but I am from Georgia so for me:

Northeastern = $48,000

Georgia Tech = $18,000

Georgia tech is just a much better choice financially for my family and I.

This is great @PengsPhils! Is there any data on ED2? Are these included in the ED figures? Crazy how high the ED admits were in 2018. Even odder that the overall admit rate leveled out despite the high ED. Gather that ED is something of a new creature at NEU (5-6 years old?). Guess they are still tinkering…

@BrooklynRye ED is only about 3-4 years old. ED II started last year.
