Northwestern, Berkeley, or Amherst?

<p>Help choose between Northwestern, Berkeley, and Amherst.</p>

<p>Give reasons too.</p>

<p>Northwestern is great for english/creative writing/journalism, however i didn’t exactly love the campus or the vibe of the people… Cal has a much better, more friendly and inviting vibe, much more going on and its academics is definitely top notch, but I’m not sure how their writing dept. matches up to northwestern’s. hope that helped</p>

<p>English is probably very strong at all three schools; consider instead non-academic factors that might influence your decision. Location-wise, I think Northwestern beats both Berkeley and Amherst…good luck with your decision!</p>

<p>kim, why is NW’s location better than Cal’s? The SF bay area is full of former Chicago residents, or shall I say, refugees…</p>

<p>My former roommate at Haas went to NW as undergrad. Really liked it at NW, but loved it at Berkeley. In terms of academics, NW has the slightly better MBA program (except in tech and maybe int’l bus) and the better journalism school. Berkeley’s better everywhere else.</p>

<p>Berkeley or NW trump Amherst.</p>

Oh by the way Cal…i said NU’s location could be better because of the opportunities provided by the 3rd biggest city in the U.S. and one of the world’s most beautiful skylines…but apparently berkeley’s surrounding is very beautiful also. :)</p>

<p>I’d choose Amherst only because you can choose your own curriculum (even devise your own major), you can attend other classes at the four well-known colleges in the area, and also because you can do one of the college’s 250 exchange programs (something insane like that) anytime you want.</p>

<p>Plus, Amherst’s rugby team is sick (as in really good).</p>
