Northwestern Econ versus Cornell AEM

Hey Guys,

I am a transfer student from UIUC Business and I am accepted at both programs.

I am interested in either Investment Banking or Management Consulting. Currently, I am interning at an IB.

Which school is better in terms of academics and career opportunities?

“I am interested in either Investment Banking or Management Consulting.”

-You and everybody else…

more of the top consulting firms recruit at northwestern

pretty useless in the long run though, more important is which you like more/will get better grades/get more involved at

i would say Cornell Econ = Northwestern Econ

Northwestern Econ >>> Cornell AEM

AEM could be the biggest joke major at Cornell, everyone there in that program flies through it. idk…

bumpppppppppppppppppppppppp

what were your stats just by curiosity?

Columbiahopeful!, has no idea what he is talking about.

I say go with Cornell AEM. Even if it is an “alleged” easy program recruiters dont give a sh&t they take plenty of AEM grads every year. Northwestern is a great school for Consulting and places plenty of grads at top consulting firms…Ibanking? not so much. I go to NYU Stern and I have done internships at a HF and MS and never met a Northwestern grad on Wall Street. Not saying they dont get recruited but not as much as a Northwestern grad seeking a career in ibanking would like. On the other hand all the top consulting firms recruit at Cornell and you can expect to see all the BB’s.

Cornell AEM is a safer bet if you are torn between both professions.

^This is an old thread! He’s now a Wildcat. By the way, the OP just got a summer internship offer from GS, IBD at NYC as a northwestern student. So much for coming to NU board telling people they don’t get much recruited…

Columbiahopeful didn’t say AEM wasn’t heavily recruited either. But what he said is probably true, considering bunch of their classes do have A- or even A as the median grade.

One more thing: we don’t know how well the first graduating class of Kellogg cert will do yet. It will be interesting to see. The huge difference in prereqs suggest Kellogg cert is a much more rigorous program (AEM requires only one semester of calculus).

maybe that’s because not all ibanking jobs are in new york… of course cornell is going to have more grads in new york. guess what? i’ve never seen a cornell grad in chicago…

“ve never seen a cornell grad in chicago…”

Your thread history suggests that you have never worked in banking…So idk what you are talking about.

“This is an old thread! He’s now a Wildcat. By the way, the OP just got a summer internship offer from GS, IBD at NYC as a northwestern student. So much for coming to NU board telling people they don’t get much recruited…”

Well he went through SEO…

http://www.mmss.northwestern.edu/students/Internship_Directory.pdf</a> shows five MMSS students got summer internship at GS in the past 3 years. Keep in mind MMSS has only 40 students each year and usually half go to grad school.

Just to point out that not all people post in the MMSS directory, so that’s only a limited sample.

to be honest though, NU doesn’t do as well in i-banking as some of its east-coast peers do. It does a lot better (comparatively speaking) with consulting. And btw, Stern does absolutely amazing in i-banking placement. I have a few friends that have attended and they had great opportunities. I think that NU’s low placement in i-banking has more to do with NU’s student body than anything else. I get the feeling that many of the students that attend would either rather do management consulting or would rather stay in the chicago area and work for an investment banking…

yeah most people i know who have taken finance jobs have taken them in chicago, no one really goes to new york

…lol…
