so less financial aid?

^no. what it means is it enables the school to operate business as usual to a larger extent. so NU should likely have less cut, if any, in usual things (things that increase operating expenses) like fin aid than others that rely more on endowment for their operating expense.

^on the other hand, it partly explains why NU FA hasn’t been among the most generous in the past. in the good days, the schools that rely more on endowment to keep it running are able to offer generous scholarships/FA. the endowment has to keep up to make the generosity substainable. once the good time is over, those schools would have to scramble to cut services. those services may or may not include FA but some things have to incur the cut.
