This is a big FAT one! Now, they have no excuse for not putting a new student center!

Woot! ANOTHER big chunk of a billion from the pharmaceutical research. I <3 science. :)

that’s awesome

Some of this money is likely funding J. Fraser Stoddart’s recruitment to Northwestern - quite a coup for the school. This may well prove the difference between being one of the nation’s top nanotechnology programs to becoming, as the Chicago Tribune argues, “the nation’s top nanotechnology research center.” In addition to the hundreds of millions going to the endowment and projects like this, with Lyrica sales at near $2 billion a year, Northwestern will likely continue to see tens of millions yearly from continued royalties. That’s a lot of new money coming in for years to come to play with.

From the Trib article:

“Northwestern has been using some of its Lyrica royalties bonanza to fund its drive to become the nation’s top nanotechnology research center. The university has vowed to hire more scientific superstars in the coming year, relying on the prestige of its nanotech team and cash from royalty payments to attract more talent.

This summer it recruited J. Fraser Stoddart and his team of 20 researchers from the University of California at Los Angeles. Next month Stoddart will join NU stars Chad Mirkin, Mark Ratner and Sam Stupp at the university’s nanotech center.”

This is all well and nice but the university really does need to be pumping this money into Norris and the dorms. I rant about this all the time though so I’ll save my breath…

Better dorms would be really nice. Better Norris I can live without- I honestly don’t see myself having time to use a student center much.

sweeeet. and yea, dorms could use some work…and Norris? lol. what a student center…

yep (10 char)

i’d settle for having the wireless fixed in the elder floor lounges, but i wouldn’t hold my breath for that either…its kind of sad for a private university of our caliber not to have wireless, and nutv is kind of a joke
