thanks, qweruiop, that’s very comforting to know, and now i can breathe a bit easier :)

wait
from what i’ve heard so far, they DO NOT notify you if you haven’t gotten an interview

How many people actually get interviews from the 700+ applicants. Also, do you guys know how many get the acceptance from that group?

i think like 100 get interviews…40 or so get in?

if you review the posts of the past two years, it seems as though they do send some sort of notification (prolly letter) if you don’t get an interview

cirohpue, sounds like a good match! you lucky man/girl (your preference)!!!

omg, I GOT AN INTERVIEW!!!
i am so happy b/c i didn’t expect it at all since my SAT verbal was only a 690 and I have had 2 B+s in high school
i am so excited to meet you all over there

congrats hannanaq! it’s a coincidence that I have a 690 verbal that I too am worried about…I hope it works out just as well for me as it did for you :)

hum i kind of gave up hope already. i’m going to Chicago to present a project and it would have been nice to have an interview at the same time, but oh well, it doesn’t seem like that’ll happen.

congrats for everybody who got a letter and good luck on your interviews :b

dont lose hope
remember that you will need to worry about the letter if it doesnt come by the 15th or so

bleh, i’m still waiting for an interview notice or a rejection notice

me too…

me too :(

same here…

itd be nice if they can just send out interview notifications/rejections by email on the same day to everyone yea?

ya…but that would just be too nice of a thing for them to do… :/

Not sure about HPME, but the regular admission is getting tougher.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-0702100149feb10,1,5367180,print.story?coll=chi-business-utl

do you guys think that this has any effect on why interview invites are coming out so slowly? they have a lot of applicants this year–19% increase in reg. admission, and from a previous post on this thread, there has been an increase in hpme applicants as well.

i think we should be safe to assume we’re still in the running for the next couple of weeks. in previous yrs, it seems as though 2/15 is the cutoff–i don’t think it’s the same this year since there are so many applications.

but of course, we’re not sitting there in the admissions office, so of course, we have no idea whatsoever about what’s going on.

I have the honor of an interview with Northwestern’s HPME.

However, the problem is this: I live in southern California. Chicago and Evanston are SO far away. Should I still go? I most likely won’t attend NU if I am not accepted into the HPME, but even if I am accepted, I’m not so sure that I REALLY REALLY want to be a doctor. I mean, I THINK I want to be a doctor, but I’m not sure if the time and money to travel to the NU campus will be worth it.

Since I received this letter, does this mean I actually have a solid chance at HPME, or is this letter not indicative of anything significant? Generally how many students apply to HPME and how many receive this letter (the HPME website vaguely says “a limited” number of students)? If my shot at HPME is still very remote, then I may not want to commit the time to do this interview. Additionally, I don’t even know if I’ll be accepted into NU as an undergraduate applicant, especially with the massive boost in applicants this year. Is it possible that despite having received this letter for an HPME interview, I will still be rejected or waitlisted during the undergraduate application review process?

Sorry, I have so many questions because I am so confused as to what to do. I like Northwestern, but I’m not in love with it. Will taking this opportunity to interview with HPME help me decide if NU is right for me and whether or not I really want to be a doctor?

Let me answer a few of those questions. First off, I feel that the HPME program is for those who are positive that they wish to pursue a medical career. If there is a significant amount of doubt about your future career, and you don’t think that you would attend the undergraduate institution if not accepted into the HPME, what would you do if you got accepted into the HPME, went to NW, then found out you didn’t want to be a doctor?

On the other hand, visiting NW would definitely give you a better feel of the school. I’m pretty sure that if you get selected for an interview, you are accepted into the undergraduate institution (I don’t think they’d ask you to fly over otherwise).

I think the breakdown is something like this:
700 applicants
100 interview slots
30ish selected

In the end, visiting Northwestern will help you decide if it is right for you… but to decide whether or not you want to be a doctor - that’s all up to you and you only.

Hope that clears things up for you!

Best of luck.
