Northwestern HPME Part 1

i’m a girl and i got an interview. i am interviewing march 4th and i’m staying overnight.

jonthelin, how exactly does the overnight stay work?

If you don’t mind me as a substitute…

The overnight stay is pretty simple. They hand you a meal ticket and drop you off to your host. From there, it’s whatever the host decides to do. Most will comply to your requests, if you have any, and all of them will answer your questions. Ask whatever you were afraid of asking anyone else affiliated with the university. The host is not contacted by the Admissions Office (at least I was not). It’s just like a sleepover, but on a college campus :)

so is it over for us if we havent gotten an interview offer yet?

ya I was thinking the same things :(

Absolutely not, interviews just have to be done by March 7th. Don’t give up! I know there’s still offers out there.

Any ideas how late into feb people got interview calls last yaer? Also did anybody got rejection letters this week? Not sure how these or the interviews are done.

This thread started years ago. I’m sure that if you look, it will pretty much say approximately when people stopped receiving interview calls.

my guess is wait one more week, and then that will be it

hang in there.

I have some questions about my interview (that is coming up in two days), Jonthelin. It says that there will be three 30 minute interviews. Are they all at the Medical School? And are they consecutive? Any idea on who they are with (3 MDs, one MD at a time? or maybe an MD then a grad student and such?)?

Thanks!

the interviews are at the med school. they will be pretty much back to back (with short breaks in between). the interviews are one on one interviews with doctors and med students.

Why aren’t the HPME’s interviewed the same way as normal applicants at Feinberg? (ie the panel interview followed by a one-on-one interview)

just got back from interviews
did not stay over because of schedule

day of interview goes by extremely fast

i had 1 with the director of hpme, 1 with a doctor (actually the head of the cardiology department0, and 1 with a 4th yr medical student
there’s a lunch in there with two med students
all held at either the main medschool building or the feinberg building about 2 blocks away

they are supposed to each be 30 min. (scheduled that way) but mine were quite a bit longer
anyways, they were not very intense at all, they all seemed really nice and give you a good idea what the program rly looks for

and they are still doing the application screening, and is by no means done with the interviews, but this yr there are more applicants and less spots

do you know how many spots, TheF?

just had my interview today, any other CCers there on feb. 18th? It was wonderful meeting you all! Hopefully we all get in! :D

so do u hang out with other interviees during down time if any?

in between interviews you talk to ppl in the waiting room
then lunch is sorta q&a but you can always digress
and if you get to stay over it’s kinda cool 'cause you get to see everyone

from what i heard from one of the interviewers
it’s like high 100’s to low 200’s get interviewed
then around only 25 spots

this is probably exaggerated… but it’s definitely tougher this year

i remember reading that the med school wanted a more diverse class and therefore less hpmes. but when i read further, this is what i got: the med school has been getting more and more selective and they started seeing a small gap (they didn’t use that term but that’s how I was getting it) between the hpmes and those getting in through regular admission. so they are making hpme more selective to make sure the two group are on par with each other.

Hey everyone!

This is my first post on this forum (and actually my first time using this site) but…
I’m going to Chicago for my HPME interview next week and was wondering if I have to bring anything along for the interviews (i.e. a resume or scientific abstract, etc.) Do any of you happen to know?

Good luck to everyone applying!
