Northwestern HPME Part 1

Just receivied an interview…so to all those still waiting, remain hopeful!!!

Hey guys

Do you think they are calling back less people this year for interviews as there are fewer spots?
How many from the forum have already been called. When do we know if we get in or not? Do decisions come via email or snail mail?

deathlyhollows, what are your stats?

34 ACT
800/770/740 on SATIIs
lots of medical research
solid essay, i felt it conveyed my reasons for medicine

for those who already interviewed/current HPME’s, did you feel the questions were mostly similar among the 3 interviewers? Were the interviews geared toward medicine and why medicine, or just getting to know you as a person (or both)? THANKS

ya I called the office ealier today (for other stuff) and the admission officer said that interviews are still going out and will be for about another week or 2

going out meaning they’re still conducting them for another week or they will still be contacting people in that time period?

contact people

going to northwestern tomorrow evening for interviews friday!!
im so nervous

good luck bigred…

also, I want to stay overnight with a student, but to meet the 4PM deadline for meeting your host, I would have to miss another day of school. Do the people that already interviewed and stayed overnight recommend missing a second day just to stay overnight?

1 more week to hear?
Do they go by last names or geographic area?

My last name is in the VWXYZ part of the alphabet :(

@pakiman87: I would look into adding more medicine related e.c’s. Hospital volunteering is only skimming the surface. Try to get some research or physician shadowing.

Have not heard from them at all. People who are not invited for the interview should have gotten their rejection letter by now …right?

i think staying overnight is a good idea to get a feel of the campus. it’s especially good before your interview so you can mention things that you liked about the school and perhaps get some insight into HPME from your host.

I thought someone said March 7 was the date that the interviews had to be complete by. And my last name starts with M and I haven’t heard anything, lol.

my last name is at the beginning of the alphabet and i havent heard either.

psychicreader- i really hope thats true…lol

I guess we all just have to keep hoping! This is nervewrecking, do you think we’ll hear for certain by this week?

I haven’t gotten anything back from Northwestern HPME either, and their website says that invites are sent in February. We only have five days left!
And it’s not like I got a rejection letter, either.

Especially frustrating because I know some of the people who got invites for interviews and I’m not arrogant or anything, but I think my stats are better than theirs. I’m a finalist for WashU’s Moog Scholarship (1 of 8 selected out of 800 applicants).

Ah, well, we’ll see. :I

Im flying out this Thursday night for an interview on Friday! Yikess. I’m nervous. I had some practice because I had my BU interview, but there will be differences at the two schools.

As for the overnights, it said that if you would be arriving later than 4pm, you just have to make arrangements beforehand, so I am sure it is possible.

How many/what type of interviews do you have to HPME? Like with what type of professors, are there specific subject areas? Thanks.

And in regards to not having found out anything yet…

I emailed Jason Palmer making sure that he got all the parts of my application. He replied that he did. The next day, I got sent my email for the interview. Maybe it was coincidence, I’m not sure. But an email can’t hurt just to make sure everything has been received and processed correctly, including update information. For example, I let them know I was an Intel STS Semifinalist.

Bah, I’m so scared I’m gonna get an e-mail/rejection letter while I’m in LA…hopefully since I’m so close they’re waiting until the last second to invite me? Or maybe it’s just wishful thinking.
