Hi everyone! I am currently trying to decide between either majoring in Biology and being on the pre-med track at Northwestern, or attending UMKC’s 6 year program. I think I might have a better undergraduate experience at Northwestern, but I’m worried it might be difficult maintaining a good GPA which is needed to be competitive for medical school. At UMKC, I would be able to achieve my end goal of becoming a doctor, but I’m hesitant when it comes to the intensity and rigor of the program, especially with not many breaks or summers since the program is sped up. What are your thoughts, and what major factors should I consider?
Are you guaranteed admission to medical school in the UMKC program ?
@Publisher yes, it is guaranteed admission. The six years would cover both undergrad and med school.
Then UMKC is the correct choice.
Though keep in mind that the 6Y UMKC program is a grind. More of one than even regular life as a pre-med undergrad. And it’s the type of program you enter only if you stay 100% sure you want to become a doctor.
Agreed. But the admissions folks are also aware of that & heavily prescreen applicants to these dual degree programs.
Also, if no pressure to take MCAT & no pressure to apply & interview for medical school, then the grind is certainly worthwhile.
