Northwestern RD Class of 2022 Discussion Thread

Congratulations to all those who were accepted!

@MFHP96 I’m in similar situation as your son. I’m waiting for a bunch of top schools, and I’ve been rejected from two of them (including Northwestern), but I’m glad I have my Purdue acceptance in my back pocket. Great school for Engineering (What I’m majoring in) and CS for sure!

Daughter was accepted to dual degree program at Bienen and Weinberg - Yiippppeeee!!! Stats GPA 3.96 unweighted, SAT Superscore 1430, amazing singer - she is really excited!

Going out on the limb here and re-calculated the admits adjusting for additional ED acceptances in 2018 over 2017 and assuming the same yield ratio as 2017 on regular decision pool. Wish all colleges will publish such data.

Accepted to Medill!! I can’t believe it omg

Any other Singaporean applicants that got accepted?

Rejected!
Congrats to all accepted!

The waitlisted numbers above come from which year?

Hello! First time posting but I’ve been lurking since this thread started lol. Accepted into engineering! 1500 SAT (800M, 700R), 4.0 UW GPA, 800 Math II and 780 Physics for SAT II’s. Lots of extracurricular activities in school + I’ve been interning at a NASA facility for the past year. Don’t get down if you got rejected! I’ve already been rejected from a lot of schools so I didn’t have much hope for Northwestern lol I’m sure you’ll all find great schools to go to! If anyone wants more detailed stats then let me know and I’ll post them.

My D told me she is denied, but she refused to show me the decision letter, I am not happy about it! Is this normal for your kids? She was excited last Thursday when she was accepted to WashU and text me immediately her letter screenshot so she should not be very upset today, but still I feel not comfortable for her attitude.
Her stats is sat 1540, act 33 ( probably the reason?), 750 liter, 720 us history, 4.2Gpa, lots of leaderships and sports.

Don’t overthink it. Ask her at a later date/time. It’s an emotional roller coaster for everyone. @wingjuer

@wingjuer teens need space especially with rejection. no matter what she says, she’s not happy (just went thru this here, and it was a school S didn’t want) she just needs to know you’re in her corner. give her time to heal and I bet you eventually get an earful.

@wingjuer lots of families have those moments especially this time of year, college decisions, spring break, study those midterms b4 spring break, maintain that grade so that someone don’t rescind the admission. So I would give my son a time to breath and let him open up and share that info. Worst case as per decision letter on portal it says "In the next few days via mail, you will receive an official copy of your decision letter ". So you have an access to real letter, not just a screenshot and then send a screenshot of that letter to my son with caption ‘Thank you for all your hard work and I am proud of what you have achieved’.
Turn your experience into learning moment.

Came here for a first post to reciprocate the generosity of others,

Son ADMITTED:

The general excellence of the candidates active here is exceeded only by the kindness and thoughtfulness on these boards. It’s refreshing to see in a public, anonymous space in 2018. Thanks.

What is Medill’s acceptance rate? And what percentage of RD applicants at NU are waitlisted?

Thanks for all your reply! Congrats to all admitted kids!

WAITLIST (McCormick)
Wow, this is jarring … but son is certainly in good company. Thought he would do better but the stats of kids getting shot down are super high. He’s hoping for one in particular next week on the 28th but this just makes us nervous. Moral of the story: if you want it enough, you had better ED it, or the next kid who does will take your spot.
Visited campus and had a good alum interview – went to info session too – not enough interest?
1540 SAT (790M/750 R/W); 800 Math 2
3.98 UW / 4.6 a-g
11 APs + 4 AS/honors – AP Scholar with Distinction
National Merit Commended
Departmental award for top Calc BC student
Two published scientific papers and Nanoscience summer program
Eagle Scout, Track & Field (high jump medalist, pole vault) / Cross Country / musician
Accepted to engineering: Michigan (EA), UT Austin Honors, UCLA, UCSD, UC Davis, Cal Poly, Washington,
Denied: Stanford
Waitlist: Johns Hopkins (didn’t visit or interview, though), and now add to that list: Northwestern. Think I have read that almost nobody gets pulled off waitlist. Then why do they offer so many kids a spot?

@wingjuer I’d ask why you need to see the rejection letter. Is it really that important? I’d respect the privacy your kid wants - it can be humiliating to be rejected. Maybe there is something in the letter that is particularly upsetting. All the more reason to respect feelings and privacy. Acceptance letters are the ones you actually need to see as those are the ones that require action.

@optimistic43 What is his major? Did you visit the campus?

Congrats to all and to @NoviceDad, same here
