Northwestern Receives Transformative Gifts for Biomedical Research and Global Education

Roberta Buffett Elliott (Weinberg ’54) gifted $11.8 million to expand undergraduate global education through the eponymous Buffett Institute for Global Affairs, Northwestern announced in a Thursday news release.

The gift will expand opportunities in the International Studies program, which falls under the Weinberg College Center for International and Area Studies.

A $29 million donation from Northwestern trustee Kimberly K. Querrey will enable the launch of a new institute “to catalyze the translation” of academic research into practical medical tools, the University announced.

The Querrey-Simpson Institute for Translational Engineering for Advanced Medical Systems will help fast-track University research through clinical testing processes for new technologies, according to the news release.
