New to the NU baord, and have not sat in on any info sessions so i need some help here;

1) do you need 45 courses to graduate from NU?

2) how does their quarter system work & how many courses would you have to take typically to graduate in 4 years.

3) if you do a minor in Theatre do you have to be admitted to the Communications School also? Is it seamless to do a minor in the communications dept?

4) When you apply to NU, do you have to apply specifically to WCAS OR Communications (and specify major within the school)

5) can you get into Medill with no prior journalistic experience but have interest in broadcast journalism?

Trying to plan a trip to chicago this summer and would like to get some of answers to plan the trip.

1) For weinberg at least, yes.
2) The quarter system is three 10 week quarters, + a week of finals (generally, there’s some variability of + 1 week). The standard courseload is 4 courses a quarter.
3)Dunno.
4)Yes, you apply specifically to the different schools (Medill, WCAS, or Comm for you)
5) Generally its harder, but possible. But harder.

arbiter213, thank you for the answers! are you currently a student at NU? If you are, how hard is it for you to manage with the three 10 week quarters? How are more traditional semesters set up?

Thanks again!

I’m a current student- I don’t find “dealing with” the quarters hard at all- you adjust to it pretty quickly, and then its just how school runs. A semester system is generally something like Late august to mid january, then Late January to Mid may (4.5-5 months a semester).
