Hello!! I’m a freshman at an LAC but I’ve been considering transferring due to location and severe lack of theatre opportunities. I was looking at Northwestern and really love the school and want to transfer into their theatre department.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience transferring into this program and you could offer any tips/advice? I know it is a competitive program with limited space but I want to give it my all.
Thank you in advance!!
You need to contact Northwestern transfer admissions to see if they will have any theatre spots open for transfers for the quarter you intend to transfer:
May I apply to any school or department at Northwestern?
Transfer applicants may apply to most departments at Northwestern’s undergraduate schools.
Exceptions include:
• The School of Communication: Theatre department spaces are only occasionally available.
If you are certain you want to transfer, I encourage you to cast a wide net.

Solid advice.
Your academic qualifications will be important for Northwestern University as once one is admitted to NU it is easy to switch majors & schools within the university except for Music (audition required), Musical Theatre (sophomore year audition required), and Theater (openings are rare).
The Fiske Guide To Colleges lists about 3 dozen colleges and universities for :PERFORMING ARTS–DRAMA.
Decide whether you want to pursue a BA in Theater/Drama/Acting or a BFA (audition is almost always required).
At Northwestern University, the Theater major is a BA program and it is easy to double major if you so wish.
From The Fiske Guide To Colleges:
PERFORMING ARTS–DRAMA (includes comedy & other sub-specialty areas):
Boston College
BU
UCLA
Carnegie Mellon (audition required)
Catholic University
DePaul University (solid program)
Emerson College
Florida State University (excellent)
Fordham University
Indiana University
U Iowa
Ithaca College
U Minnesota
UNC-Chapel Hill
USC (top notch in everything theater related)
Syracuse University
TCU
U Washington
Yale
And, of course, Northwestern University
Kenyon College is good, but I suspect that Kenyon might be your current school as you noted dissatisfaction with the location.
Muhlenburg College is another to consider.
