Northwestern vs. USC/What constitues a "better" pre-med program

Which university has the better pre-med program and how is it better? I’m hearing a lot of conflicting views about what constitutes a “better” pre-med program. On the one hand I know Northwestern is the better university in terms of its strengths in the science department. However, I have also heard that the competition (especially among students aspiring to be physicians) at Northwestern is fierce and that it is very hard to get grades that are medical-school-competitive.

USC on the other hand is a less reputable university academically speaking but I heard that it offers solid pre-med advising. Also, since the level of competition is not as high, it is easier to get the GPA necessary to get into medical school.

What do you think? What are the pros and cons of either options?
