Will sending another LOCI at this time help? Or no.
I only hope you are right but doubt they will have anywhere near that type of movement.
Cal Berkeley offered 1,097 WL admissions in 2019 and 1,668 in 2020. This year their hands had been tied until last Friday due to Newsonâs space limitation executive offer. Letâs see what they do this week about putting the third person in triple rooms. UCLA generally has more WL actions than Cal considering the particular stickiness/yield of Berkeley offers. But UCLA did not even try the trickling approach to pre-release in response to yield and deferment. So, bad vibe about UCLA WL for this particular year.
Someone got in today
Hello! I think that was my daughter. She was contacted on Wednesday or Thursday (May 19th or 20th) that she got off the waitlist (business admin major). She had until Monday (May 24th) to let them know of her decision. She thought long and hard but decided to attend the university she had already committed to.
Best of luck everyone!
Do you know in what school?
Send in another. It can help but surely not hurt.
Is this basically the end
I hope not.
Has anyone gotten any updates?
theyâll be done by august 1st, AO told me on the phone today
NU sent email today that they had filled the class and closed the waitlist. My child applied to School of Communications. Not sure if class is filled for whole university or just that school. A very sad applicant at home.
I was SoC too- i didnât hear of a single person who got off for SoC!! iâm also a very sad applicant. (i was a theatre major, how about your kid?)
alsoâ every WL applicant from every school got the email, even engineering, which we know is what they were primarily pulling.
best of luck to your kid!! sending them love!
The waitlist has now officially closed-didnât get in either. Good luck to everyone in this thread, hope you all the best in the future!
Itâs closed for the whole university. Perhaps go to a school that loves you, and try transferring in a few months. Good luck!
Iâm hopping on here as someone who was put on the waitlist last year and stuck it out all the way until mid-August (they closed it super late because of the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic). Although I was disappointed when they finally released me, I went to another school excited and hopeful for the future. Unfortunately that school turned out to be a not a great fit for me, so I thought I would try to apply to Northwestern again as a transfer student; and I got in! I am now going there next yearâI never would have thought things would turn out this way, but I couldnât be happier. I truly hope it works out for all of you, whether you end up loving the school you are going to or you end up trying for Northwestern again. Wishing you all the very best!
Any advice for anyone here trying to transfer in next year?
Iâm really hoping to transfer⊠but Iâm a theatre major and it says on their website that spots rarely open up in that program. Letâs hope for a miracle cuz I am gonna try again!

Even if you are planning to transfer, approach your first semester at college as if you are going to stay (who knows, you might end up loving it). Get involved with student organizations you are passionate about, join executive boards, and go after leadership positions. Colleges want to see that you made an effort to enjoy the school you were at. Some application questions also ask you WHY you want to transfer, and you will have a much better answer if you really tried to make your school work. Also, you will have to list activities again in the Common App, so getting involved will only help you on that front.

Grades matter! Colleges will really be paying attention to those first semester grades, so try to take classes you are confident in and do your very best. Itâs also a good idea to take classes across subject areas (some science, math, humanities, social science) to show you can succeed in multiple areas at the college level.

Make your application different from the first time around, but keep your core interests and enthusiasm for the school. Youâre going to have to write another personal essay. Donât just repeat/revise what you wrote the first time, because they still have your original file. Be a little bold and write about something recent or something that happened in the past that you now see from a new perspective. But also donât stray completely from who you were as a high school senior, because they want to see that you are the same person, just with a continuing story.

Strike a positive tone. Donât rail on your current school or convey bitterness about not having been accepted the first time. This is really key! Focus more on what NU will give you that you donât already have and how you will be able to contribute to the school in a way that you arenât able to at your current institution.
Thatâs my main advice; I hope it is helpful to those of you who reapply. Also, I am not an expert by an means, these are just the things I focused on in my application. Best of luck to you all!
Very pragmatic and on point, @bigfoot888! I am sure you will enjoy your time in Evanston - congrats again!
