My son is taking Multivariate Calculus at community college in his senior year. It’s a two-quarter course. He finished fall, but got waitlisted for winter quarter. There are still two weeks to see if he can clear waitlist. He already said in his application that he plans to take the second quarter, in worst-case scenario he cannot register, what is the timing to inform the colleges? As soon as possible or after getting accepted?
BTW, his intended major is engineering.
He may want to inform colleges now that he has been waitlisted for the course, and then inform them again when he either gets in or is denied the course.
Sooner is generally better.
I do not believe it will have a bearing impact, but informing the collegey now is surely better. Even if it may be unlikely, you never want to put an acceptance at bay over such a thing.
This happened to my daughter with a different dual enrollment course. She let the colleges know as soon as it was clear she would not be able to take the course. In the end it had no effect on her previous acceptances (she had no pending decisions at that time).
I would wait the two weeks until he knows for sure if he clears the waitlist or not. If he ultimately does not get into the class he should notify all of colleges he has been accepted to and all of colleges he has applications outstanding with of the situation. I don’t expect it will hurt him but it is better to be proactive.
