not accepted...yet

I got a letter from USC saying they need to see my transcripts for the first semester of my senior year. In a way I am happy that I was not flat out rejected and I consider usc as a very high reach school for me. I currently have an uw gpa of 3.27 and a weighted gpa of 3.77. my first semester grades look like this:

Calculus AB/AP: B
Spanish 4 AP: B
English 4 Language AP: A/B (not sure yet…pending my results of my final)
American Government AP: B
Microeconomics AP: B
Model United Nations: B

My math grade can be seen as an improvement as i got a C during the second semester of last year (pre-calc regular). As for the other classes, my grades have been consistent, except for spanish which dropped from an A.

My extracurriculars were very good, and I also attended USC’s summer program and was recognized for having a top five business concept in my class.

Also, I intend to attatch a recommendation letter from a family friend who is a well respected alumni at USC.

Do I realistically have a chace of getting into Marshall, or should I start considering other universities? Again, I am shocked that I was not rejected because of my low GPA and mediocre SATs (1940).

Even if they choose to reject you, wouldn’t you not know anyways until April since rejections come out last…

I don’t think they flat-out reject anyone.

Everyone needs at least 2 safety schools. If USC is truly your first choice, see what happens. If you do not get in, then talk to USC and see if you can work out a transfer agreement. I don’t think USC seeks out alumni recommendation letters.

Can you elaborate on “transfer agreement?”

firefornia, see post #149 in the “FAQ for USC Admissions thread”, presently on the last page.
