Not applying to a certain college because someone already goes...

This will probably sound so completely stupid to read, and maybe it is, but is it completely unreasonable to not go to a college because a specific person already goes there. Here is the short back story.

Friend 2 years older than me goes to Bing. Thats a great school, one that I think I have a good chance at getting into, a popular school for students in my area to apply to (Long Island).

But this kid, back when we were both in high school, he was the worst influence in the world. He was the school “druggie” and he turned the innocent freshman that I was into a pot smoking , alcohol guzzling moron. I never was thrilled about hanging out with him, he thought we were closer than I thought we were, had no idea I wasnt in the same boat as he was…

Since he has moved on and went off to Bing ive stopped for the most part, it was never really me I guess I was just doing it to fit in. Not that im a goody goody, but this kid was the absolute biggest stoner in our HS. Ive managed to avoid hanging out with him when he comes home but he still contacts me all the time and doesnt get that im not like him!

I know for a fact that if I go to Bing, he will try to recruit me into his frat, try to hang out with me he will be under the assumption that I want to get high as a kite every night, and thats not really my style. Also going to college is supposed to be a new experience with new people!

I know you will probably say not to let someone else determine where you go to school, but I just really am dreading having to go through that but at the same thing I really love Binghamton.

first you control you, not your “friend”! and you will run into people the world over who are leaders and those who follow. who need to learn to be either be a leader or better yet a self motivated/free thinking person. I guess you still party from what you wrote, maybe you are not 100% on board with what you wrote about your past and current ways… if you want to free yourself and find your own , way go to a school further away and start a new. that can be rewarding on many levels and help you grow.
