Not "bonding" as much as everyone else seems to be?

It’s only the first week, so I didn’t expect to have a million BFFs or anything
But it seems like everyone else on the floor has already formed a kind of family?
The thing is, I don’t bond with people easily. I don’t like to let my guard down and let new people in.
I’m polite. I smile and say hello. I hold doors and respect quiet hours.
But it’s now the weekend and I’m not really “hanging out” with anyone?
I’ve signed up for a bunch of activities so I don’t intend to be a hermit.
But I don’t feel like I quite “fit” here.
Is it normal for some people to need a little extra time to mesh with people?

Yes, very normal. It took me a year and a half to find my “group” in college. In the meantime, I focussed on my education, activities I enjoyed, people with whom I superficially interacted. Clubs and activities are great but likely to be disappointing if you go expecting or hoping to find friends. Go because you are interested in the activity or club and perhaps a friendship or two will emerge organically in time.

You are not alone. Many threads on this topic during the past couple weeks with lots of good advice. Hang in there, keep being friendly. You will find your people. Many of those who seem to have people now may not be friends with the same folks in a few weeks, months or more.
