Not for Parents who had babies who "slept through the night" after 1 month!!

Hanna. Are you suggesting that this parent should have access to the grades/assignments page for the college student?

-I know it is not addressed to me. But it seems to be easier just to ask a kid how she is doing. There is nothing wrong asking, you have all rights, you are supporting them. I would not ask frequently, but I ask my 23 y o even now, she never turned me down. Anyway, we have never ever accessed the grades/assignments page, we had better things to do, never even occurred to go there, why bother?

I’m going through the same thing. My son is struggling. He went to a small school up until high school but even there a lot of kids that he knew for years were there and the high school itself is one that fosters closeness. Private , single sex, catholic school I really thought he should have picked something smaller than a large OOS flagship type school that he did where not one single classmate accompanied him there and not eve a handfull of kids even from earlier grades there. In other words, he did not know a soul and being state school, a lot of the kids knew each other. Many came in droves from their high schools. Also the larger lecture hall classes are new to him.

He’s holding his own and wants to stay there. I’ve been encouraging him to join some clubs/activities, enclosed groups where you can meet people because you are togehter on an informal basis at a certain time and place rather than just relying on happenchance which just isn’t happening for him. I also encourage him to take just 4 courses, no over loads and to focus on doing well on them. It may take some summer classes and an extra semester to get through, but I want him to have every chance to succeed.

^Sounds like he is on his way adjusting.
I just wnat to point out, that every single freshman seem to go thru adjusting period. Even most outgoing kids who make friends easily and seems to surround themselves with similar crowd that they are used to in HS. I do not think that there is anything to do to prevent this. We took it as another life’s obstacle that needed to be overcome and the experience would result in personal growth. Hopefully they learn, most likely they learn somewhat, not a 100%. In D’s case as I mentioned, she tend to take on too much and she still does it. It feels that she is afraid to miss out on something. I bet that everybody has something that will pull them down, they just have to deal with it, but it makes life more exciting.
