To be honest, I’ve been overloaded with work from my AP classes and I’ve realized it’s not worth it. Right now at least.

My teacher came up to me during class and she asked me why I wasn’t going to. She said that I’m a great student, that she enjoys my work, and even that I could “go far”. I just said that I don’t have time. Everyone is almost done with a couple of their essays and writing and whatnot and I haven’t started anything. Nada. People have already started buying supplies and decor! I don’t have a single thing…

It really doesn’t fit into my schedule. Maybe I can postpone it until winter break?..but then I’m going to be studying for my AP exams…

Sure, you might not have time now, but come next fall, you’re going to have much too much time because you aren’t going to be doing ANYTHING. High school is busy for everyone now. A college app, if you really have no time at all, can be done in a week, just putting in an hour or two a day. Really, the only part that takes time is the essay, assuming you already have a resume.

You’re working so hard for a high school diploma, which is great. But a college diploma will help you more in your adult life. So, work towards that goal.

Think about the future, not just high school.

Think about it this way. Your AP classes are taken for college credit at the institution you’ll probably attend-- if you don’t attend a college, the hard work you’ve put into your AP classes will be for nothing.

Look at your state flagships and other state schools, as well as local CCs. I would still apply to one or two colleges with essays-- if nothing else, do them during winter break. Just ask for your transcripts/letters before you leave!

Like others said, what is the point of doing well or even taking APs if you are not going to college? Apply to schools that only require the common app essay, that way you could apply to several schools and have only written one essay.
