The Midwest was extremely hot this summer. Everyone was waiting for autumn. Now, the city I’m at has hit 70 or more for 24 days this month. Today it’s 77 and quite warm. I’m sick of it. I want fall. I want chill and boots and jackets and sweaters. I want bonfires with warm cider.
I can’t figure out what to wear. I don’t want to wear summer clothes. I’ve put my sandals away.
oh, and let’s don’t talk about my 3 day Napa trip earlier this month with freak weather hitting 100 degrees while we were there
I know I’m probably in the Minority, but who else is with with me?!
I like this mild fall. We still have apple cider, and can be outdoors with our neighbors. I have memory pop ups of my mums covered with snow…sorry…not my thing.
And agree…cold weather will come soon enough. I’ll be patient and wait.
Where I am in NC this is more warm days than normal, but we often have warm days in October, so it doesn’t really feel too weird to me. We just haven’t had many cold days so far. The warm days we have had aren’t too much warmer than past Octobers’ warm days, but there are just more of them. I remember one or two Halloweens that were really cold when my kids were little, but generally Halloween is often not very cold here.
I’m good with the temperatures. I used to love Fall, but my hatred of winter has seeped over into Fall now because Fall means Winter is coming. I just hate the short days. The weather so far has been great. I love Summer the most and then Spring and then Fall and I really have no love at all for Winter.
My weather is pretty much the same as NC, as I live on the state line. I hate hot weather, but so far I’m OK with this. The lows are in the 40s and 50s at least, so the humidity isn’t bad. My house isn’t using much AC (I keep it at 79) nor heat (keep it at 65). I think we may have used more heat than AC this past month.
But complain all you want about hot weather!!! I hate the summer!
Happy for the warmer fall taking place in my neck of the woods – it allows me to enjoy more outdoor walks and a bonus few rounds of golf. This pleasure is, however, mixed with real concern for our planet.
I appreciate fall weather, but we seem to be getting endless Indian Summer, instead. It’s been in the 70’s for days - in the Midwest. I hear that it will be a warm winter, which of course brings a host of issues come next spring/summer. Mosquitoes, ticks, exploding animal populations, negative impact on the Great Lakes, negative impact on crops … I will take a cold winter over these issues anytime.
I live mostly in the northeast, and I miss my “normal” double-digit summer temperatures, including August which used to be a prime vacation month. The idea of a warm, sunny day that doesn’t involve chasing the next air-conditioned enclosure is absolutely a bonus before winter.
In theory warmer temperatures can be nice. Weeks and weeks of them in a climate that isn’t supposed to be that way, it makes me feel a way that all is not right in this world. And I worry for the world I will and my children will have in the future.
Last year we went to a warmer climate. I’m happy to change my venue. I want my place on this earth to be the way it should be.
Also as a place that gets lake effect, warmer than usual lake temperatures may mean more snow when it does come. Low lake levels next year. The climate is the way it is for a reason. If I didn’t like it, I could move somewhere else.
I’m with you @conmama . I like seasonal weather and I live where I do for a reason. We had a very hot summer here in the upper Midwest and I was not happy about that. I like a cool crisp autumn, sweater weather. As it should be.
A bit hot for me as well, also in the Midwest. However, it’s been sunny and has been great to enjoy being outside so much. My sweet spot is a 65 degree day with partial sun. Never look forward to January and February here as I dislike snow/ice. Oh well!
I agree. I’m tired of warmer weather and would very much like some sweater weather.
Beyond not knowing what to wear, it’s hard for me to think about the holidays and the fact that TG is only four weeks from today!!! It should be cooler by now! Doesn’t feel like TG is so close.
I’m sorry about that Napa weather! I would not want to have been vacationing in that weather.
It’s been an unseasonably hot summer and fall. Today we have some rain in the forecast but it’s still not sweater weather.
I used my air conditioning most nights for all of Sept and October. It’s more days than the AC has been used in the entire 29 years I’ve had AC. Most homes in my area don’t have AC. I am ready for some Ca fall and winter.
Sorry about that heat wave during your CA vacation @conmama !
I have loved the October weather but I don’t like the reason that it is likely happening - an “unsettled atmosphere” (trying not to be political) . I also feel fairly confident the cold and some snow will come. And I’m ok with this mild October so that even if it gets cold it won’t maybe seem as “long”.
While I’m enjoying my favorite weather which is casually a longer short and a long sleeve t or sweatshirt, I also haven’t forgotten last January and the FRIGID COLD and snow.
But we are supposed to hit 70° tomorrow for a high here in New England, and drop to 55° high on Saturday. For the trick or treater’s sake, I do kind of wish the warm weather would have lasted one more day for them; our neighborhood really decks out with decorations, so we get a LOT of kids. After that, I don’t care.
