Not mentioning classes at a college

Just out of curiosity I was wondering about the following.

In October, in a rush, I applied to Santa Monica College and I begin in the Winter 2016. As an International Student I have my i20 and visa stuff sorted out and I am currently in the US.

In November I also applied for UC Schools + a few others as a freshman. If I happen to get accepted to the universities then will I need to disclose that I went to SMC for a Semester or two and will that have any affect on anything?

I never mentioned applying to a college or anything on my UC applications… any tips or info on this?

Many thanks!

you DONT need to disclose IF you dont enroll for classes at SMC.
So take the next semester off, because if you DO enroll there then you will have to disclose that AND you will be considered to be a transfer student, and then CANT start at a UC AS A FRESHMAN in Sept 2016.
Youll have to reapply as a transfer student.

If you enroll in any college courses after the summer immediately after high school graduation, you will be ineligible for frosh admission to UC, and will have to apply as a transfer after completing enough college courses to transfer as a junior. See http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/index.html .

Even if I take the bare minimum amount of units? i.e. I take just four units at winter just to maintain my visa status (I would like to stay in LA haha)

one class with one unit will mean you wont be allowed to enroll at a UC as a Freshman.
its not a laughing matter.
do you think we;re kidding??

There is a clearing house which would have copies for your college courses/grades (transcripts) so unless you drop your courses for the fall session with no grades and do not continue taking classes at SMC, then you cannot be considered a Freshman but a Transfer student.
Lying on your application now will come back to haunt you later. I would not take that chance.

Why did you apply to SMCC if you didn’t plan to attend there long enough to get the credits needed to transfer into the UC system? How is it that you did it “in a rush”? Have you just graduated from an intensive English program and don’t want to have to go home for a couple of months?

I graduated high school with intentions of going to a university outright, but I was reading that if you go to a community college then its easer to transfer into a university. So I had done all my applications via the commonapp + UC page whilst also applying to SMC. I got all my visa stuff done and am currently in LA. SMC starts in January- I haven’t taken one class yet.

My thing was that I wasn’t exactly expecting any offers. My grades were very average but I had some good EC’s- I was hoping they would carry some weight but I would never assume they’re enough to warrant acceptance to any of the unis I applied to.

I received an email from UC Berkeley asking me for Letters of Recommendation which I’ve been told means that you’re on the cusp of getting in. I was thinking hypothetically if I were to get in then would I be allowed to enter as a freshman or not.

I got my answer though.
