Hey, it’s me, Sluggy! ::::waving wildly to my CC friends:::: I got a message by m-mail (marmot-mail) that some of the Oh-Fours were chatting about what a great support group we had once upon a time here on CC. Well, we made it!! We lived to talk about how our kids managed to graduate from high school and some actually made it to college! WOOT! That alone is an accomplishment for our special group. :::awkward cough from the back of the room:::
The kids are all grown up! Some finished college, some didn’t, some just went on to do their own thing, like letting couch surfers stay in the apartment we were paying for…or moving to NYC to become a chef…or going to grad school in Copenhagen…or turning down grad school in Hawaii because she had a boyfriend in Denmark. Basically, pursuing their own passions, despite the teeth-gnashing and hand-wringing of their well-intentioned helicopter parents. For some, it got harder than we ever expected during those long college years, especially after they moved back in with us. ( That was some fun, huh?) Marriages and divorces happened. The Wild Things grew up.
Fwiw, I still keep in touch with a couple of SA alumni. Our friendships on CC turned into real friendships outside of CC. No talking about peeps who aren’t on CC anymore, so don’t…even…think…about…i…T (<–say it like Snape). Join me on fb, if you wants (TA Nelson). As long as you aren’t a hungry cannibal, or something along those lines. I marched in the Women’s March on Washington, so if that doesn’t float your boat, fine.
Hey there, @sluggbugg ! I’ll bet you remember the comment I made on the other thread. @jym626 and @BunsenBurner were the only ones who admitted to understanding a reference to clam farts…
Today I met an MD who is new to me. He was talking about his stress with his kids who are around college age and their health issues that have to be considered in connection with colleges. I gave him some good counsel. Next appointment, I’ll mention College Confidential to him. Didn’t want to bombard him with too much at one time. Just talking to him made the years melt away and reminded me of all the decisions we had to face when our kids were similar ages.
How many of us in our 60’s and 70’s will have to return here because our kinfolk suddenly decided to get more education? And we will have to spoon feed therm this elixir of knowledge like they were still teenyboppers with no prayer of succeeding.
Say what?? There are plenty of posters here in their 60’s who either themselves or have “kinfolk” who have chosen to further their education. They don’t need an “elixir”. And they have every “prayer” of succeeding.

Not in that age group yet, but have been actively taking continuing ed courses. Mr. jokes that when I hit 60, I might decide to go to med school. One thing for sure - the MCAT will be a piece of cake for this OChem major.
We both retired (in 60’s) the past year and then took audit classes at local state Uni. H and I are taking a language class this semester. We took 2 classes each last semester (dance, science, language) and it cost $25 per credit. It has been really fun being with the young crowd, carrying a backpack, etc. We take the quizzes and tests to see how we are doing. Tests are not required. Neither of us had ever taken this language before and it has been a great mental challenge. We are doing very well in class. This was of for mental exercise, physical exercise, and socialization and a trip planned to the language country. A win-win situation.
BTW, I plan on staying on CC for quite a while yet.
D2 is in graduate school ( not at the same U) and I enjoy CC too much! Not over it yet!
