<p>For my common app essay, I want to write about how my grandfather was a refugee and how this moved me to take action for the refugees in Darfur. Should I classify this as:

  1. a person who influenced me
  2. issue of importance
    when I submit it?</p>

<p>If it’s a good essay, I agree with quaere - it doesn’t matter how you categorize it.</p>
